iPod Refusing to Charge

Sun Jan 07, 2007 7:20 pm

I got an iPod nano for Christmas, and it's been working fine until a few days ago...

I plugged the iPod into my computer to charge, and nothing happens. Normally the "Tasha's iPod" thing automatically appears in iTunes, but now it seems that iTunes doesn't recognize that my iPod is plugged into the computer.

As for the iPod, when I plug it in the fully charged symbol appears right away, even though it is far from fully charged.

So, I have no idea what's going on. Help?

My ipod nano doesn't charge off the computer and it eventually just went completely flat and wouldn't come back to life.

I sent it back to apple to teach the dastards a lesson, and then stole my girlfriend's charger, which made it work fine.

have you tried using the plug-in charger? the one that plugs in the wall?

Have you been using a car charger at all? Because that destroys the battery really quickly and that's why I had to discard of my iPod Mini.

I don't even have a car charger or a charger that plugs into the wall. O_O

what?! no charger for the wall? there's supposedly a cord that attaches to something that plugs into the wall though...unless i used someone elses xD

The new iPods don't come with the wall charger - you have to buy the adapter separately. I don't know when they started doing that, but it's stupid. Makes more money for them, I guess.

Anyway, have you tried doing a hard reset of your iPod? That'll be the first thing that Apple suggests anyway, so you may as well give it a shot. I don't remember how exactly to do that, but it shouldn't be too hard to find out.

First, make sure it's plugged into the computer.... Don't ask...

Then try updating it, if not, do the reset thing, by toggling the hold switch and holing the Menu + Select.

And if all ail fails, assume the fetal position

If all that fails, you might have to do a restore/factory reset.

And yeah, new iPods don't come with the wall charger. I had to buy one for my first-gen Shuffle in 2005, and my first-gen Nano didn't come with one either.

ARGH! I reset it...nothing.

:(

Factory reset? ARGH. I've only had this thing for two weeks. Stupid Apple. >.<

Which reset did you do? The 'reset all settings' in the actual iPod options, or the hard reset? (Menu button and something else which I don't recall off the top of my head)

I also found this on the Apple site, though I don't know if it will help.

o.m.g. like adex said- assume fetal postition xDD

The hard reset.

I think my iPod may be kittens. I turned it on to do the reset all settings thing, and my spinner wheel isn't working. It'll make the clicking noise as I run my finger along it but the bar won't switch through the different options. If that sentence makes sense.

hmm i get what you meani think. when you move our finger the sound is heard, but it doesnt highlight anything?

Eep.

Yeah, at that point, I'd send it into Apple and hope they can either fix or replace it.
