a question about iTunes

Sat Mar 03, 2007 12:59 pm

My computer broke down. And with that my iTunes library. I had about 400 something songs, and although I know that's not "a lot" and everything, but I don't wanna have to buy a lot of those songs over again. Do I have to?

Broke down as in totally, completely died, or what? Because you can always try and see if someone can salvage the hard drive for you- I've been able to do it before, when my laptop died on me a few years ago (though it took me ages; I had to hook it up via firewire to our main computer, then struggle to get my stuff off :().

If not, do you have an iPod or something, with the music on it? There are various applications you can download to get the music off of it.

With the newer versions of iTunes you can download songs off your iPod. If that doesn't work then try salvaging your hard drive or use another iPod-ripper.

As far as I know, it's possible with newest versions. If not, the iPod file format has been reverse engineered, so it's entirely reasonable to say you can get the songs back. (Sorry, I don't know the name of the program that does it, and I'm too lazy to dig through old copies of Fortune...)
