Here's another question for you guys:
I have a Dell E1505 laptop and I love it very much. However, headphones don't work on it. I plug them in, and sound still comes out of the internal speakers and not the headphones. I try rebooting with headphones out/in, speakers muted/not muted, and nothing seems to change. How do I fix this?

I can only see it being two issues, either:
1) Your headphone jack is damaged, in which case you should just buy a new pair of headphones unless they're really expensive
OR,
2) Your output headphone socket is damaged. You'll probably need to send it back to the shop to get it replaced.
More likely the fomer, but someone else probably has better, more optimistic outlook though.

I'm not fimiliar with headphone jacks, but my initial thought would be a broken pin, bit of copper, etc. on the computer's side. On a laptop, oyu'll probably need a professional to fix the problem.
There might be an issue with drivers, though that's probably not it. Has this been ongoing, or just recently?

Ever since I got it, and from what I've seen when I Googled the problem, I'm not the only one. So, can't be a broken jack of any kind.

What software is controlling your speakers/volume? I think that makes a difference, because I also have an E1505 and I'm using the Creative software. I had the same problem you had, but I don't quite remember how to fix it.

Uh...it says 'SigmaTel' in the volume control box, so I guess it's that. I figured that it could be a driver issue of some kind, but I had no idea which driver(s) would fix it.
