I just found out that my cousin gave me an iPod Shuffle yesterday (I found out today, but she gave it to my parents while I was at this french contest and was exhausted afterwards and they didn't tell me). So does anyone have any experience with one of these? I'm an iPod Newbie and have no clue what to do with it. So any help would be appreciated. :)

1. Can I erase songs after I download them?
2. Do I have to pay money and can I only order from iTunes to get songs?
3. Should I trade it in for a 4GB iPod Mini for just $100 more? (mine only holds 120 songs)
4. How do I download songs? ( it says stick the ipod shuffle into my usb port and it will auto transfer the song I download into the player)
5. Can I pick out songs from CD's I own and put them on there aswell?

Thanks for anyones help. :D

Eh, I don't have an iPod, but I do have an mp3 player, so I'll try to answer those questions o.O

1. Can I erase songs after I download them?
Yes.
2. Do I have to pay money and can I only order from iTunes to get songs?
No idea o_O
3. Should I trade it in for a 4GB iPod Mini for just $100 more? (mine only holds 120 songs)
Well, it depends on how many songs you want ;)
4. How do I download songs? ( it says stick the ipod shuffle into my usb port and it will auto transfer the song I download into the player)
Yes, that's how you do it =P After you stick it in there's a folder in My Computer and you can edit it and everything.
5. Can I pick out songs from CD's I own and put them on there aswell?
Em ... I don't know about iPods, but with my mp3 player I can either connect it to the CD player and record in-line, or just record directly.

Really sorry to steal your thunder, but Shuffle is HORRIBLE. It is so random it is ANNOYING.

1. Can I erase songs after I download them? Yes

2. Do I have to pay money and can I only order from iTunes to get songs? Yes, You have to actually. Depends.

3. Should I trade it in for a 4GB iPod Mini for just $100 more? (mine only holds 120 songs) YES! ASAP!

4. How do I download songs? ( it says stick the ipod shuffle into my usb port and it will auto transfer the song I download into the player) Yep, that's right!

5. Can I pick out songs from CD's I own and put them on there aswell? It's harder, but I can do it with my Ipod(Not shuffle, i sold the shuffle i got from christmas)

EDIT: I changed it, happy now? XD. I misread, and thought it was a 4gb ipod shuffle.

If the Ipod Shuffle is so bad, shouldn't he trade it for the better Ipod Mini instead?

I actually don't have a Shuffle, and I don't want one. I do want an Ipod Mini though.. when I casually mentioned it to my mother, she suggested the Shuffle because it's cheaper, so I calmly explained how the Shuffle is nowhere near the same thing. I'd rather have my entire playlist accessible via a screen for me to choose whatever I want, than a smaller memory and endless shuffling, never knowing what's going to come next and having no choice about it.

Now, as I said before, I've not had access to any sort of Ipod, but I may be entirely wrong, but I'll answer to the best of my understanding:

1. Can I erase songs after I download them?
After you download them from your Shuffle? You should be able to.

2. Do I have to pay money and can I only order from iTunes to get songs?
I hope not. You should be able to put any songs of the supported filetypes onto your Shuffle.

3. Should I trade it in for a 4GB iPod Mini for just $100 more? (mine only holds 120 songs)
YUSS! I certainly would. In my opinion, the Shuffle is a real waste of money. I'd definately go for the real thing.

4. How do I download songs? ( it says stick the ipod shuffle into my usb port and it will auto transfer the song I download into the player)
I suppose you just stick the thing in there, and it'll open up a temporary drive or folder in My Computer, and you can put in and take out whichever songs you want. (that's how my digital camera works anyway)

5. Can I pick out songs from CD's I own and put them on there aswell?
I suppose so if you can rip them and they're the correct filetypes. I often rip songs from my CDs using Windows Media Player just for playing them on my playlist. But then they're wma files and Ipods don't support that filetype. If I wanted to put them onto an Ipod I'd have to convert them or rerip them as mp3s (the Shuffle may have a way to directly rip them onto the Shuffle).

1. Can I erase songs after I download them? Yes, but if you purchased them from iTunes then that'd just be a waste of 99 cents.

2. Do I have to pay money and can I only order from iTunes to get songs? iTunes is really the only program I know of that's been proven to work all the time with iPods. Plus it's easier to organize your music with iTunes.

3. Should I trade it in for a 4GB iPod Mini for just $100 more? Yes, but it's actually $150 more.

4. How do I download songs? Stick it in the USB port. If use iTunes (comes standard) then you can just drag songs from your music library to wherever it says "____'s iPod Shuffle"

5. Can I pick out songs from CD's I own and put them on there aswell?
Yes. Open iTunes and put a CD in the disk drive. Select the songs you want to copy into the library, copy them, and then drag them to your iPod Shuffle.

This isn't totally accurate though. I have an iPod Mini, but I'm pretty sure it's the same general idea.

1. Can I erase songs after I download them?

Yes

2. Do I have to pay money and can I only order from iTunes to get songs?

If you order from iTunes it costs, but you can put any music you own on it. If you have songs on your computer you can put them on your iPod as long as it supports the file type.

3. Should I trade it in for a 4GB iPod Mini for just $100 more? (mine only holds 120 songs)

Depends. If you want a lot of music then yes. And you can afford it. Or just jack them all in and get an iRiver.

4. How do I download songs? ( it says stick the ipod shuffle into my usb port and it will auto transfer the song I download into the player)

It's been done.

5. Can I pick out songs from CD's I own and put them on there aswell?

Yes.

iRivers are of course the best.
Everyone's being rather harsh about iPod Shuffles because 'they're so random!!one!'. Well yeah, that's the point. If anyone bought an iPod SHUFFLE and was irritated by it being random, then they're an idiot. That's really the whole point of it.

Yeah, you can rip CD's to your computer, buy and download from any online music store, ect. Doesn't matter how you get the music to your computer.

Ok thanks everyone for your help. :) And yeah, it might be bad, but I don't need that many songs and I don't really want to spend any money (because im frugal :P). And its just like a portable playlist/mp3 player. You can set it on shuffle mode or set it on regular play from the first song in your playlist to your last. So its not all that bad. Thanks again everyone.
