Just wondering what is a good spyware/adware program to use? I already use adware but is that enough? I had spybot but now I dont. Another problem I have is it kept picking up a hijack attempt so I kept deleting it but it kept coming back and also lots of high rated on my firewall...any concidence? What can I do? thanks

From my current knowledge I'm not entirely sure whats going on, but as far as best spyware/adware detection programs go, Spybot and AdAwaqre are very good, Spyswee[er is good but you have to pay for it. You mite also want to get a program called HiJack This, between HiJack this, AdAware and Spybot you should be able to successfully get rid of most or all ad/spyware.

I believe there is a Microsoft Antispyware program you can download from the Microsoft site. Other than that, I also use AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy. I haven't really had any problems with them, I don't keep them in real-time and have them running like firewalls, I just regularly run scans.

Adaware is pretty good...just get the personal edition
And make sure your spybot is an updated version...the old one doesn't update definitions for you
I read somewhere that you need to scan once a week? I scan about once every two weeks
Other programs to checkout are zone alarm (firewall) and avast (antivirus), both are free
I dunno why but norton once found a virus which it couldn't delete and when I used avast and did a boot scan it found 36 viruses, while norton only found one...

I dont know I keep getting on my spy bot one potential attack I get rid of it but it comes back yet norton isnt detecting any viruses and all my other ad/spyware programs arent detecting it

I believe sometimes these sorts of programs (particularly firewalls) and the like can pick up things like port scans that are being done to your computer, problem is sometimes these port scans are done by an ISP or the network if you happen to be connected to one and they're pretty much not a problem, something like that anyways. Without knowing specifically what you're talking about (Anti-Spyware isn't exactly my specialty) I can't help much more, sorry, but good luck anyways!

I use Ad-Aware and Pest Patrol. I like using more than one because sometimes one will catch something that the other didn't pick up on.

Just make sure you get Ad-Aware from LavaSoft--there are some sound-alikes that actually give you spyware. Ada-Ware is one of those. And also, make sure you have the most up to date version of Ad-Aware: SE Personal 1.05. If you have an old version of it, you need to go to Download.com to install the newest version and, in turn, get rid of the old version. The new version is awesome!

I like Pest Patrol because not only does it scan, it also lets gives you a log of the urls of the cookies that are being placed on your computer while you are on a particular site. You can then delete the ones you don't want while keeping the ones you do want. This is very helpful with the new banner ads because you can then use IE to block those non-Neo addresses on Pest Patrol's cookie log. Go into tools, then internet options, then privacy, then sites, then add the address, then hit block--and the cookie will no longer be able to stick when the banner/bottom ad is shown.
