There's a problem with my new PC. Whenever I try to open Task Manager or cmd or registry, the window opens but closes immediately. Can anyone help?

Sounds like a problem that my friend had when he had a virus...

Do you use MSN? And did you click any odd links in the last day or so?

I definitely didn't, but probably my dad did. Is it a virus?

Do you have Spybot? You can run a task manager from there.

Yeah, I do, but I still can't access the registry to delete the problem directly.

Hmm... can you load any of the symantec sites? Generally if the antivirus sites are blocked, it's a problem going on (eg. worm/virus).

Do you have any antivirus software, and if so - is it currently running or disabled?

In fact, just yesterday I was attacked by a bunch of viruses and trojans, which prevented me from opening internet browsers. I used Avast and Bullguard to remove those stuff. It's fixed now, apparently, but I still can't access registry/task manager/cmd...

By the way, how do you access Task Manager from Spybot?

If you have your spybot updated, you should be able to use the task manager in spybot. Set spybot to advanced mode. Select tools and go to process list. You can also change the startup programs two icons down. I can check your hijackthis log too if you want me.

I found this really suspicious process going on, but the remove option is greyed out, thus I can't remove it. What should I do?

Can you try restarting in safe mode? Maybe you can end the process that way. If you can, hijackthis can help find what is wrong.

Download here

Run it and save a log. (But don't fix anything yet) Copy and paste it here.

Good thing it wasn't too complicated. I had no idea what it could be.

Notron Internet Security is good for this problem. It intercepts the attack, and if the same IP tries 3 times, it permanently bans that IP from your system.
