I want my dad to get me firefox, but the problem is, he thinks its spyware or something like that.

What should I tell him?

Tell him to stop acting like a moron and try something new. He doesn't have to be afraid of change.

Ignorance is NOT bliss, in this case.

I hardly think that statement would help convince Xalax's dad.

Just tell him how it is more secure than IE, how many famed sites (like CNET.com) and magazines have praised it, how it can block irritating ad banners and pop-ups. If that is not reason enough, I don't know what is.

Honestly, are you a spokesperson of FireFox or do you have some emotional bond with it? You seem to hate anyone who doesn't like Firefox.

---

Xalax, I would discuss the pro's and con's with him [About FireFox]. Tell him also about the pro's and con's about whatever you have now and compare both lists. Surely if FireFox is so great, the pro's will outweight the con's of it, and the pro's/con's of your current browser.

Mozilla (and its subsidaries) block spyware a hecka lot more then IE does. I use firefox and have never had to use Ad-Aware...

Since these are no longer temporary forums, I will update my signature.

"Firefox is simply an alternative web browser with beneficial features that Internet Explorer lacks such as tabbed browing. Also, with Firefox, you won't get all that adware pop-ups and virus attacks that Internet Explorer gets often. It wouldn't hurt to, at least, try it for a few days. Firefox is not spyware, and it will not install spyware. If you don't believe me, go ahead and run a spyware check using a program such as Spybot."

Go ahead and paraphrase what I quoted above or memorize it.

Actually IE only has a pop-up blocker if you have Windows XP SP 2 or install a third-party pop-up blocker.

And since SP2 causes so many unnerving problems, IE is still bad.

Xalax, show your dad this link: http://reviews.cnet.com/Mozilla_Firefox_10/4505-9241_7-31117280.html

It shows the pros and cons of Firefox, it is still an overall superior browser then IE, convert I say.

Tell him all about the wunnerful wunnerful extensions going on in that sly little fox. Or just a copy of the Wall Street Journal review and wave it around in his face.

Show him Mozilla's site, including the feature list of Firefox, all about Mozilla (he'll want to know about it, since my dad did), other sites that say how good it is. In the Jan. 2005 issue of Popular Sciene (just got it today), they have a list that's called "5 Things You'll Want To Know About IE Before you Open It Again" or something that basically gives 5 bad reasons. Firefox is mentioned in number 1. :P
