It may be different, but it's definitely not random.

Yes, it seems the ingredient mechanics are different for everybody.

However, it does seem like there's a pattern in the type of effect that an ingredient has. Very hard to pin down, though.

The stages for a potion are:
Red (beginning stage)
Green
Blue
Purple
Black
Pink
Redblueyellowbrown (no, really)
Last stage?

The colors shift in this order if you are making progress. If it drops down the scale, you are not doing it right.

every time I lose and start over the pattern seems to alter as the first ingredient I use gives a diff msg.

Sat Oct 28, 2006 2:55 am

I believe the First Phase had 2 or 3 ingredients (color changes)

Second Phase had 7 ingredients (color changes)

Last Phase had 9 ingredients (color changes)

EDIT
If you are using the correct first ingredient, it should change the color the first time you use it...if you get it wrong (aka it doesn't change color), you've thrown off the whole mix and you'll have to make it overflow in order to start over again.

Here's how I wrote down my transformation notes (for the 3rd part). I don't know if they'll help anyone, but it's how I was able to organize everything for myself:

Code:
Bum: Red --> Green --> Blue --> Red; Swirl --> Grey

Leafy: Red --> Green --> Blue --> Red; Pink --> Grey; Swirl --> Grey

Crushed: Green --> Red; Purple --> Grey; Pink --> Multicolor; Multicolor --> Swirly; Swirly --> Sparkly; Sparkyl --> Red

Salt: Purple --> Blue; Blue --> Green; Grey --> Pink; Multicolor --> Green; Swirly --> Multi; Sparkly --> Green

Bronze: Red --> BLue; Blue --> Purple; Green --> Red; Swirly --> Swirly

Basically, everytime I stumbled across a color change, I wrote it down. Something to keep in mind is that one ingredient will change the color, REGARDLESS of what ingredient was put in before it. So, in my case, a "Leafy" would have changed a green potion blue, regardless of whether I'd thrown in "Bum" or "Salt" in before it.

Mine started of in red then

Crushed Jurpleberries = > blue
Bumroot = > blue
Crushed Jurpleberries = > purple
Leafy Slorgblossom = > black
Leafy Slorgblossom = > pink
Crushed Jurpleberries = > rainbow
salt => swirly
Bumroot = > mega Purple
Bumroot = > final red infused

The ingredients for everyone is different but the effect you are after is the same. I would swear that round one was random, but two and three were easy to logic out. All three were different.

I can't get the multi-colors in the third stage. Mine are still the same as the first two stages, or are they supposed to be?

Has anyone else gotten "to be continued" yet? I'm wondering if my last theory holds true...

Sat Oct 28, 2006 3:03 am

then 2nd one color changes go then goes black, pink, multi colored i believe

on the thirid one it has color changes then goes black, pink, multi colored, greenish white, darker purple , then blueish color with re d in it when potion is done

i dont know if that helps but it did fo r me on figuring out if i was heading the right way with the ingredients, if it changed to the next color in line it seemed to work

edit - i think it was 3 on 1st one, 7 on 2nd one, and 9 on the 3rd one...

I would agree that the first one could be random and the next two definitely have a specific order

Thanks for the color list, by the way. I knew I was on the right track because of that. :)

WeirdGuy: The last potion is a Red/Grey swirly potion.

I'm still lost. I can get to pink on the last round, but after that, it's a crapshoot. :cry: I'll do this tomorrow when I don't want to fall asleep at my keyboard...
