Thread Markings

I was just looking around a few minutes ago and I noticed some of the page markers (the ones that look like a sheet of paper) in the left column shrank then grew back to normal size repeatedly whilst others didn't. Does an icon that changes size mean something different to one that stays the same?

(I now know that it occurs for both orange and white sheets as I saw it on the general Chat forum (The forum immediately below this one))

Scroll to the bottom of the main page of any forum and the icons are explained. In this case, you are referring to the icon which shows popular threads (ones with many replies)
