Photo avatars on the PPT homepage

Am I the only one who hates these photos next to each article of news?
I am trying to figure out why they irritate me so and I think it is because there are so many the same displayed over and over and over.
Just makes me cringe.

They are OK, when I skim quickly before I go here, the avatars sometimes distract me, but otherwise, if I am taking my time, they aren't so bad.

Mm, they seem a little bit big, perhaps... maybe something more along the lines of Neopet's 50x50 pixel avatars would be nicer.
They also stand out a bit compared to the rest of the design because they're photos and everything else is graphical/illustrated...

The photos are wonderful! 
They are a bit out of place, though. That I agree with. Perhaps someone could create a graphical representation of Kym's face? That would make it both cool and in cahoots with the rest of the page's graphics.

Ooh, mines awesome because its not a photo then right?
I have to say, I agree with making them smaller.

whatever the outcome of the avatars, will be ever thankful that someone created an avatar of my powerful visage as Buckethead. didn't even know it was done until i visited PinkPT one day and saw my face. started laughing for several minutes.
