Important: ActiveX prompt at forum index

Sun Apr 15, 2007 11:07 pm

If you are running Internet Explorer and were presented with an information line prompt at the forum index, like the one shown below:
Image
you should not allow the control to run.

There appears to be some junk attached to the bottom of the forum script output at the moment; you should probably disable Javascript for PPT as a precaution while we investigate this.

How does one go about turning off Javascript? I have gone through the checklist of things in the options thingy, and have unchecked the only one that uses the word "java", but i was just looking for a page and it opened the javascript thing and then tried asking me for a password and crashed IE for me...

EDIT: It appears something has installed itself on my system even though i DID NOT accept whatever it was to run - can someone please email me when it's safe to return?

I haven't had any trojans or activex exploits, just in case you guys have that, you can still visit here using Opera.

I did accept the install before I looked here, because it said it was from microsoft corp. I don't think it has affected my system though. I do have a bunch of nonsense ont he bottom of the forum pages though.

"document.write(unescape('%3c%73%63%72 ..." et cetera? Yes, I think everyone does. :)

The NeoDex is down. could the problems here be related?

Mon Apr 16, 2007 4:33 pm

To anyone using Firefox, the NoScript extension may prove helpful. It allows you to block Javascript on any website, or any website trying to access your computer from a page. Everything will automatically be blocked. The disadvantage being you have to type out smilies, but that's nothing too hard to cope with, heh.

Forums should be fine now, rest of the site is still affected.

The NeoDex is working again, as is the poll on the left sidebar of the front page. does this mean we are in the all clear? Also, should this have been mentioned on the front page, or eventually mentioned on the front page?

Notified the host using Hunter's summary of the issue (thanks Hunter). All fixed.

Whatever you did to fix this problem got rid of the trojan too, I haven't had that problem at all yesterday or today
