The place is certainly quieter than it used to be. What sort of confirmation are you looking for?

Neopets isn't doing anything, and nobody has anything to say. The rest were eaten by Gnu's.

Christopher actually has a point.
That, coupled with the fact that people are leaving Neo (or atleast the people who bother to use the fansites. XD) are leaving in droves.
NeoLodge is having the same problem. :(

Wait...is christopher's suggestion that Neopets isn't doing anything the point, or do I need to keep an eye out for carnivorous gnus?

You should always keep an eye out for carnivorous gnus.

And drop bears.

I was on a MUD once when a discussion of a critter called a chickencow quickly devolved into the idea of a bloodthirsty creature bearing the same name, which quickly devolved into members occasionally posting "Buckabuckamooooooooooooo.......*death*."

For the first three weeks, it was quite honestly hilarious.

But back to another person's post: is Neo membership really sliding that quickly?

http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traff ... eopets.com

The fraction of Internet users who access Neopets is down 18.9% since three months ago. For comparison...

http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traff ... pinkpt.com

PPT is down 11%

http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traff ... eopets.com

The Daily Neopets is UP 26%

http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traff ... nalhit.org

IDB is down 40%

http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traff ... cebook.com

Facebook is UP 23.3%

http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traff ... google.com

Google is down 1.92%

What I think is going on here is that as more people start regularly accessing the Internet, some sites are doing a better job than others of reaching their intended audiences. The number of people accessing Google is not growing as quickly as the number accessing the Internet as a whole. The same is true to a higher degree for PPT, Neopets, and IDB in that order. I believe Neopets is at fault for some of this, but some other Neopets fansites like TDN are rapidly gaining members.

So yes, traffic down real big across the board. In order to mitigate this, Neopets needs to try harder to involve the members they have and reach out to new members. PPT needs to get its front page in order and work on reaching people on Neopets by offering knowledge and expertise. Both of those things exist in abundance here, but it seems like the site has lost a lot of focus lately.

TOSO, stop posting exactly what I'm thinking. It's really annoying that I had to edit out a long bit of my post (and some of it's still a bit redundant, alas) because you posted it first, my dear braintwin.

Let me preface this with my traditional disclaimer for these threads: if you think this place is too quiet/inactive/negative/smiley-intensive and want to change that, threads like this rarely have any effect on that. The thing to do is to post your own threads, contribute to discussions, yada yada yadda.

Okay, enough of that. I have graphs! And statistics!

Virtual Worlds News says Neopets gained 8.6 million users last year. That's a reasonably large number, but Neopets has averaged over 18 million accounts per year over the past 9 years. Dunno where VWN got their numbers, but they say Neopets has 53 million users now, which is way down from what it once was. I wouldn't be shocked if the userbase were still shrinking, though I think most of the shrinkage occurred a few years ago.

Neopets pageviews over time:

PPT pageviews over time:

Neopets and PPT traffic ranks over time:

What I take from that is that our pageviews are far more tied to plots and Northern Hemisphere school breaks than Neopets pageview stats. (Neopets doesn't seem to get much of a plot bump at all. Given how high theirs are to begin with, that's not all that surprising. Still, when they do plots, it's for the benefit of the few hardcore players who are really into it. Infer what you will about them based on the frequency/quality/very existence of plots.)

Total traffic analysis happening there. Impressive.

If you're also talking about the users online list at the forum, we've reduced the time down to 15 minutes as opposed to 60 as it was previously.

This is all from Alexa, but that data would be interesting too.

This is the first time I've come here in years since I quit.. but :(
I'm looking at the lack of activity in the forum and all the dead subforums. It's really depressing..
