How do you post a picture on these boards? What websites allow free hosting of images?

Well, we have an FAQ for this, but I personally use photobucket. It's been updated so it's juch easier to use so I would reccomend that to you. But it shrinks files over 250kb, which is a bit rubbish.

So... you just upload your image onto the server and hotlink to it?

Yes. Of course, you'll have to make sure that the place you use to host images allows hotlinking, but Photobucket allows it

You're very welcome. Hope you find a good image host for your images. Just one more thing. If it's a proper picture, you can use Deviantart's scrapbook thing. Or, if it's really good, you can submit it as a proper Deviation.
