"Sorry, you cannot make a post so soon after your last

Thu Sep 09, 2004 1:46 pm

*Points to title* Is this a feature implemented to prevent double-posting? I don't see what's the point of it, since it only lasts for about 10 secs after the last post. I got it when I was trying to edit an error in a post I just made.

It also can take a crafty spammer less time than that to flood the boards with spam, another reason as to why it's implimented.

It's useful, when someone accidently click the post button twice. Although it only occured in a few situations, it spared me from having to delete a second post that I didn't meant to post.

Okay, I see the point.

Why do I get this when I edit my posts, though?

It's just basically meaning that you can't send something to the database even if it's editing, so quickly. Just press back on your browser, make sure the post it correct, wait a few seconds, then hit submit. That should sort the problem.

I think it's dumb. If I make a mistake in a post, I want to edit it before anyone sees. If anyone double-posts, there's a little X in the corner of your post where you can delete it if it's the last post (unless you post at the same time someone else posts, but the chances of that happening are very small). And no one purposely spams PPT anyway.

I'll cherish this opinion, I really will.

Flood control engaging when you try to edit a post is very rare indeed.

This is just a handy by product of flood control, not its intended action. And definitely not something to complain about.

Actually, they do. Its just that the staff are very very good at tidying the spam up very very quickly, so you dont often see it. I'll take your baseless statement as a compliment, shall I?

Flood control serves a purpose. It stops spam. Spam is bad. Flood control is good.

This is the second time in as many weeks that you have decided to "share" your administrative knowledge with us, and the second time I have had to shoot you down. Dont make me do it again. By all means share you opinions, but do so in a civil manner and please try to get your facts right first.

Heh, I see this message all the time when I'm trying to edit posts (cause I make mistakes or leave stuff out quite often). It's a tad annoying, I'll admit, seeing that it didn't show up when I edited posts in the old forum (only did if I posted too fast). But now...I'm just kinda used to counting to a long 5 after posting and trying to edit. It's grown on me.

Same here. It does get very annoying at times, but it does help the forum. And, hey- all you have to do is click the back button on your browser. ;)

Perhaps you should try using the "preview" option more often. Proofreading is quite usefull as well. ;P

I don't always catch it when I use preview. Most of the time I catch it right when I hit "submit" and I right away go to the "edit" button, fix my mistake, and that message pops up. Meh, I guess I'll get used to it.

That's the same for me.

The amount of times I have needed to edit something after straighjt after posting is quite high and it's really annoying when you have to wait about 10 seconds when tonnes of people could be reading a big mistake.

Except by the time they posted their message and have maybe read through other posts on a thread, and since it is likely that they will take longer than ten seconds to reply to anything... You have time to fix it. And everyone makes mistakes and stuff. Besides, how huge of a mistake could you make? And even if you did make some huge one, it's not like anyone is going to make fun of you for it.

Er, and 10 seconds is the amount of time I have to wait to even see my post. I have dial-up. So I can't even get the message. And I manage to edit my posts in time usually despite my pathetically slow internet connection.
