Pink Ink Is Back! -Closed-

Mon Oct 11, 2004 11:47 pm

PI APPS ARE NOW CLOSED :)

Thanks to everyone who applied!
--

If you like pink, and you've fallen in ink, well, then you're in the right place! Assuming you made anysense of that, you may or may not have deducted the fact that the Pink Ink is returning! Yes, folks, you heard me right! Chocked full of big words and hard-to-understand phrases, we're your favorite (and only) PPT newspaper! But, what are we posting for, you ask? Because we need new vict-err, staffers! We lost a large portion of our staff from the downtime, and we're looking for some new groupies to help us.

How PI Works
We've writers, editors, and me. (Yes, somehow I qualify as a whole different category..) People submit articles to writers (Writers can also submit articles of their own making). If nobody submits anything to writers, writers are required to write their own articles for the issue. Editors fix all errors, and, if needbe, can totally rewrite the article if it's found to not be totally clear. SE's are nonexistant- instead, you have me and Yoshi, who are like SE's, but.. not really. We check over the articles to make sure they piece together nicely, and we handle graphics. (Not any graphics that may be present in the article, but the graphic for the article itself.. Yes, I know, confusing) About the graphics- if you want, you have the option of sending in a graphic with your article. It is NOT required, however. Yoshi will be perfectly happy to whip up a graphic for you, if you don't want to.

Writers:
Entertainment (2)- Music, Television, Movies, Sports, etc, it's all good.
Comics- Rather self explanatory, I'd say.
Art Spotlight- You recieve submissions OR go find your own art to be featured.
Forums- Anything new happening with the forums?

Editors:- You edit everything. The basics (Spelling, punct, capt, etc), but you're also allowed to totally rewire the article, if necessary. It's up to you to use your good judgement to determine if it's needed or not.
Articles
Art
Neopets
PPT

If you'd like to be a writer.. You need to send me an application. There is NOT a form of any kind, and nothing for you to fill out. The only requirement is that somewhere, there needs to be a Word-page long article of some sort. I don't care what subject it is- it doesn't have to have anything to do with the position you're applying for. (Oh, and make sure you mention what position you're applying for...) You can say whatever else you'd like, just make sure that there is more than just the article there.

If you'd like to be an editor.. First things first. You need to edit, and include the edited version of this:

Edit Me! (Credit to Cat) wrote:During the Fall the work crew completed the following tasks, removal of all would shingles, repair of the plywood roof base and installation of a tile woof. In december we replaced damaged window facings we also repaired the plumbing in too baths and the kitchen. As you requested we investigated italian marble for the entry and spanish tiles for the patio. A price sheet for those items our enclosed.

Don't just put the paragraph, though. You can say whatever you'd like, just make sure you say something. (Oh, and mention which editing position you'd like.)

If you'd like to apply, you have until Sunday the 17th of October to send it in. Please send it to me, and me alone, with the title of "PI Application - {Position Here}" Obviously, fill in "Position Here" with whatever you're applying for.

Thank you for applying, and good luck. I hope to have a lot of PM's soon. :) If you have any questions, feel free to post or PM me.

Is it possible to apply for more than one position (By sending in two applications or more)?

Tue Oct 12, 2004 2:56 pm

As far as I know, Cae's only looking to have one person per position, from what I've seen from the board - a couple of us have asked about taking on a second position already ;)

I'm not sure about the applying for two positions thing though - it'd be best to wait for an answer from Cae :)

I believe Cae is only allowing you to take on one position, but you'll have to ask her if you can apply for more than one, seeing as you might not get your first choice position.

Hmmm.. Well. I'll do this. You can send in up to two applications, but 1) put them in the same PM, please. 2) Make SURE you specify which you'd prefer more.

No more than two though. And note that the maximum position's you hold will be one, even if you apply for two.

Okay, that's cool, because I was stuck between two positions. :P

Hmm... now that Cae's mentioned it, we're probably going to be short writers.
I'm sure everyone would love to apply for an editor position, but do keep in mind that editing is all it is.
An editor has the same exact amount of say in the paper as anyone else on the staff. We have a two-level organizational structure; everyone reports to Cae on one line of authority. As an editor, you don't get to tell anyone else what to do -- there is no one "beneath" you that you will get to order around.
This means that writers are just as powerful as editors. So to everyone who is considering applying for a writer position: DO IT.

Personally since I work, I really don't think I have time to sit down and make up stories.

I also didn't think an editor would be any higher rank than anyone else, in fact I rather remember disliking my high school paper editor because they changed one of my stories so much.

But I do have time to proof other's work and rearrange it if need be.

I'd even be ok giving people idea's of things to write about, just really don't think I have the time to sit down and write stories every week.

With that said that's why I picked editor...I honestly thought that more people would apply for a writer position to tell the truth, what with all the creativity that floats around this place lol.

From what Cae's told me, it's about a 2-3:1 ratio of editor apps to writer apps.

*prods people to apply*

I sent my application off for a writer position yesterday, so there is at least 1 more writer app! Go me! Go you! Go everyone!

Sat Oct 16, 2004 4:57 pm

Does this mean the due date for applications will now be extended?

Nope. There's no time to have it extended. We'll just have to make due with what we've got, and hope that more people apply as writers.

Some writers for ART would be nice...Namely SPOTLIGHT...

Hope that conveys a message. ;P

Sat Oct 16, 2004 8:17 pm

See... now...
It'd be nice if we got a bigger description on what the writers actually did.
When you say write about "art spotlight" is this describe a piece of work, talk about technique... talk about an artist or what?
Because just saying "art Spotlight" to me seems fairly non descriptive.
