I'm not the supreme authority on all things PPT - it would be interesting what Jim has to say if he does comment - but personally I think it goes against our goal to make PPT safe and secure for our members - we have a significant majority of minors on the site and to allow anybody to have access to birthdates seems a bit on the risky side. Of course, it will undoubtly be optionary but I don't think many kids are fully aware of the risks.

Heck, maybe I'm just being paranoid and a killjoy. I dunno :P

Why not just for the members above 13 then or something of the sort? You know there hsould be an option where the entire board is only visible to registered members. That way, it'd keep the pedos out.

well, CSK, that is a point, but people dont HAVE to add their birthday if they dont want to. And if people dont want to put their REAL birthday, they can put their neopets birthday....

And they can have where you have to choose "year of birth" there should be like "1945, 1944, 1943, Secret" so people don't have to say how old they are!

Doubt it. As CSK has already pointed out, we hold as little personal information in the database as possible.

Also, I quite like how when a members Birthday rolls around, they or their friends post to announce the fact in Misc Disc. Much more personal :)

1357 members / 365 days = ~4 birthdays / day. That's a heck of a lot of clutter in Misc. Disc just by "Happy Birthday Bat!" topics (and you'll want these to be topics, or else you're simply just another name on the list that people [with questionable intentions] may read).

(You could go into discussing how this list could be misused, and then into how you could prevent that here, but it simply is not nescersary)

The way it works now is OK - you get the affirmation that you're noticed (and not the sinking feeling that you were just another post for one of those people who want bigger postcounts and pull names from the big list every day for an extra 3-4 posts daily), and there isn't too much of a cluttering problem (yet).

That seems to be a NO for now.
