maybe we could have a 'club' place. people could make their own clubs...for example "Save the Animals" and maybe they would put links to petitions about endangered animals plus have a nifty button saying 'save the animals!' to put in their siggys.

feedback? comments? questions? =]

The problem with it though it's similar when we had a surge of usergroups on the old forums. It caused some people to join every group they could just so they can boast about it (which is why since several boards that were once old usergroups are now public boards and limited the number of active usergroups.)

This could be remedied by limiting the amount of user-created usergroups a user could join. Also, on the old forums, which usergroups you were in were displayed in your profile for everyone to see which may have caused some people to join all of the usergroups. Your usergroups aren't shown in your profile anymore so this shouldn't be a problem.

If you want to raise awareness on an issue or want to speak to other people that are interested in it too there's nothing stopping you from making a thread about it in the appropriate board - that would serve the same purpose i would have thought.

Members have started "clubs" in the Coconut Isle board on occasion. They can just make a thread which they all post on and link it in their sig if they wish. :)

Besides, limiting people's number of clubs they can join would prevent some legitimate club participants from being active where they want to.

Have any club, and people will use it as a status symbol. Just create a board in the appropriate forum :D

I think the sig idea is a great way to create clubs without making extra work for the mods.
