Alright, well, I did deserve a ban, quite obviously. I was messing with a few users heads. ;)

I told a user that she sucks, and the word was censored, and the reason for the ban was swearing.

Forgive me if I am wrong, but 'suck' is not a swear word. xD

So perhaps there could be a topic annoucing words that are inappropiate to say on the shoutbox/forums? Or at least a description.

"sucks" isn't normally used in a good way as proven by your post, and thats why its blocked :P

Having a list of obscenities on PPT... isn't exactly what I would call a good idea. You're supposed to come here and talk in a good manner, you're not supposed to come on and say 'well I can't say this sucks but I can say this blows!' Both words are being used in the same way, its just that one is on the list and the other isn't. THis could be because it really is ok to say blows, or it could be because there hasn't been an issue of people saying blows. So its better to just have a general rule to keep it clean and behave and not worry about the specifics.

A mod or admin's free to delete this, but...

You could say "suck" or "sucks" in a sexual way, and that's prohibited by any Neopets site's shoutbox and forum. And really, saying that someone sucks could hurt some feelings. Also, there are some people who are offended by that word.

Personally, I like the forums better than the shoutbox, but that's just me.

Ness - I think there'd be a bigger problem with "blows" than "sucks".

The banned words should be of no consequence anyways. Why do you need to see a list if common sense says you shouldn't be using them anyways.

I must say, it would be quite inappropriate to show the collective banned word list on a family orientated site in the first place. Common sense should tell you what is appropriate behaviour within the shoutbox, even words that may be used in a commonly derogatory way should be avoided.

I think the concern here, is that he was banned from the shoutbox for saying a word he had no idea would result in that. It is definately not a banned word on the forum. A lot of people say 'sucks' without any bad feelings towards another person. However, since you weren't innocently saying it, you were in the wrong. So, I see no reason why you should be accomodated. If you weren't trying to be mean it wouldn't have happened, so the lesson is.. be nice!
