Wow, it's so sad (to me, anyway) that you guys don't like creepy-crawlies. It's especially sad that you don't like cockroaches. They're among the most intelligent insects -- that is to say, they can find food in a maze faster than most and remember it, rather than learning the names of squeaky toys -- and they actually make pretty good pets for insects.
I'm a big fan of tarantulas, but unfortunately I always seem to get on the wrong end of their hairs - most of 'em have irritating hairs. If a bird eats one, it learns real quick that those spiders make 'em sick, so they don't eat any more. And the hairs are rough on people, too - they come out when the spider's scared, just like a dog's. So don't scare a tarantula while holding it.
The only bugs that scare me are the ones that surprise me - I squeak like a little girl when I'm surprised, which my girlfriend finds incredibly funny - but if I can expect it, then I think they're pretty cool.
I actually like insects, except roaches mainly, for them its insta-death. Roaches wouldn't bother me either if they stayed outsoors, but having them in my house is another story. But I did hold hissing cockroach once at the zoo, it was pretty cool. I was little and I remember I was one of the only kids who would hold it.
