I have *counts* 14 bug bites all over my body. They itch like mad, and I scratch them till they hurt. I use band-aid anti itch stuff but it works for about 1 minute. Anyone have any tips for reducing the itch? Thanks.

Well, don't scratch them, as that will just make it worse. Try another kind of anti-itch stuff and get some bug repellant next time you need to go outside.

Dont touch them. Get specialised stuff for them.

I have several of them. I don't scratch though, as scratching them would look VERY wrong.

Find some stuff called "Witch Hazel." It's an anti-itch rub.

You could take some Benadryl, which reduces itching and irritation.

Finally, you could try some calamine lotion or some spray-on lidocain or novacain. You can get either at any decent-sized drug store.

Why do people keep saying not to scratch them? I take a pumus stone and just keep rubbing it until it bleeds. THEN it stops itching...

If you don't want to do that, wear really heavy clothes and make yourself sweat a lot. This way, you'll be sweating out the toxins in mosquito spit that makes you itch.

I've had that problem before. I'm not just saying one little bug bite, I once had about 15 or so and 3 bee stings all in that year. Not this year though. Has it been wet where you live?

Well, starting today it is wet, and we havent really had a lot of nice days this summer, mostly wet, so yea I guess.

And Amethyst, I use my dog's plastic bone.

get a cool drink or an ice cube and put that on for a bit, it cools the bite and soothes the irritation

I had 67 this summer. I got them all in Maine, in which I stayed for two days.

I usually use Aveeno lotion, works really well. Or you can take some Benadryl like shapu said. That works too.

Try putting a bandage or plaster over a clump of them or something, so you can't reach them :p

At the moment I have 12 on my right leg and a few more on my left, all from taking my dog out at night and in the morning. Which is really bad, since some people in this area have died from Eastern Equine Esephalitis.

Use a hairbrush if you have to itch. Usually I end up scratching mine till the bleed and get all scabby. So I have all these nasty looking round scars on my legs from many summers of mosquito bites.

Mosquitos are pretty much attracted to water, so that could be why. I know in SC we're going to have a lot after today. *looks outside* Still lakefront property. For them, I suggest calamine lotion. That normally works.

The reason you don't scratch them is because doing so tears up your skin....it can cause scarring, and also breaking the upper layer of your skin can leave you more open to infections. The skin is, after all, your first line of defense against all those nasties.
