First of all you have to post a lot to make money.
Not true. Although I've had an account on Gaia since last December, I was only active on the site for about a week or two in June. During those weeks, I only posted once, but I still managed to make about 5,400 gold just by reading and moving throughout the site. I imagine that had I spent more than a couple hours a day reading the boards, I would have made much more. Let's not forget that one can earn nice amounts of money just by being lucky and getting a rare event. From what I could tell from my week on the site, the treasure chests and gift boxes found in those rare events sell for a pretty penny.
On the other hand, one could also not read or post on the messageboards at all and still earn gold. I believe users earn gold by submitting new links to Gaia's anime webpage database, and submitting reviews for listed sites will also earn gold.
That 5.4k bought me a nice collection of clothing items I'd had my eye on, though I will admit none of it was particularly fancy or rare. Here's my character:
Sometimes I replace the red sport cap with my snowman mask. :)
As for what I think of the site itself, it's not half bad. I love the items and how customizable my avatar is, and the art is gorgeous. As for the messageboards, they make for entertaining reading. I really only read the Extended Discussion message board, and the topics, although some posters were the usual idiots or trolls one will find in almost any message board, were usually very interesting and had equally interesting replies.
If anyone's interested, my account name on Gaia is, surprise surprise, Phibby.
