Igg, I can't remember why, but for some reason that doesn't work or something. I have no idea, maybe you can, but ages ago, I knew some people that did a backpack weight experiment, and they didn't just weigh the backpacks, they did it the way I said. **blinks**

That's the weirdest thing, how can it not work o.O. It's not like the scales are possessed... Right?

I figured there'd be a reason for you saying it, as believe it or not I don't think you're a complete cretin.

I was just going by the method that I had seen used, I figured they had some sort of reason for using a more complicated method, I just didn't know what.

I carry home my backpack and on A-days my physics book, because it can't fit in my backpack.

On a typical day, my backpack contains:
-My binder for all my classes
-My physics book
- 1-3 of my French books
- A calculator
- 1 free reading book
- Whatever book we're reading in English (Beowulf right now)
- My purse with cell phone, wallet, etc.
- My history or math book if I have a test
- Lunch
- Pencils/pens/supplies
- Agenda book
-Other assorted stuff that I need

I used to bring PE clothes, but I don't have the class anymore, and I have a violin to use at school, so I don't have to carry it back and forth, but I did in middle school.

Actually my school is pretty good about that. I have two HUGE textbooks this year, but one they make us leave at school, and the other they tell us to leave at home. I've basically just got to carry aroud five folders, a tiny Latin textbook, a notebook, my pencil case, and (because I want to) my sketchbook. My spine is happy with me!

Homeschool = 0 lbs in paperwork, well on my back. All that weight isn't good for your spine though.

Well, it really depends on what I do during the day. I can't give you a definite answer.

But if this counts, I once took home a stray dog when I was... like, 9 or so. My mother was NOT happy.

On a full day, where I have all my classes, I might have all of this:

-Japanese book
-Japanese binder
-Regular binder
-Physics book
-History book
-Geometry book
-Spanish book
-Whatever I need for English. Usually a book
-Book to read between classes
-Other items I might need, like my wallet, my cell phone, or anything else I might decide to take.

That's only on the days when I have all my classes. Normally I would probably have about half that.

I remember trying to weigh my pack in hs and since we have an electric scale at home it wouldn't read if it was below a certain threshold weight and the back was generally below it. A lot of the pack also hung off over the sides so it wasn't really getting the full weight. Either of those reasons could have been what motivated your experimenters.

In uni. you generally get a good size break between classes, and most don't require you to bring your texts with you anyway, so my backpack rarely has more than 2 books in at a time. I can't imagine putting a pack on like I did in hs anymore, I think I'd fall over.

I carry home:

-a bookbag (ranges from 1-10 pounds of homework inside)
-a shoulder bag (usually 3-5 pounds thanks to bassoon supplies and tiny books)
-a music folder (1-2 pounds)
-sometimes an instrument (clarinet: 2-4 pounds, bassoon: 8-12 pounds, tenor sax: 8-12 pounds)

I'm not sure on the exact weights only became I'm a horrible estimater and I never bothered to weight my stuff.

- My lunch *in a plastic box thingy*
- Two bottles of water
- Various school books *I have 5 subjects a day, and the art book is a bit heavier because it's a proper scetchbook, but sometimes I forget to take books out :p*
- Sports Kit *trainers, t-shirt, tracksuit bottoms...IF I have PE*
- Dance Kit *basicly the same as the PE kit, but minus the trainers...IF I have dance*
- Homework Planner
- Purse
- Jumper (sometimes coat aswell) *I prefer to just wear my t-shirt, with no jumper*
- Umberella
- Pencil Case *containing 3 pens, 2 pencils, highlighters, colouring pencils, a rubber, a rular and a sharpener*
- Swimming kit *when i have swimming club after school, my school has a swimming pool and we get to use it for free every friday...or at least we will when the pool is open again *the school spent over a million pounds re doing the sports hall, changing rooms and swimming pool so it looks really nice**

Meh. It doesn't do wonders for my back, lugging that around all day >.> We don't have lockers...
