My friend is going to Japan in 4 days. He's really excited. Thats all I really have to say, but maybe I can give you more info when he's told me a bit about what hes finding it like.

My friend is going off to Japan for an entire year solely because of how the Japanese girls love him (He has long hair and can play guitar :P).

Japan? Lucky lucky lucky. My mom went there on an exchange program as a student, and I've always wanted to go....

Out of curiosity, how does one go about getting an invite to this program - anyone know?
(Although I'm going to England/Ireland/Scotland with my school this year, so I doubt I'll be allowed to do any more travelling)

I have no idea. Mine just sorta showed up in the mail one day. It said I was either 'recomended by a teacher, or by my grades' or something like that.

I think you can apply for it at their website though...

Duuuude. I totally want to go to Japan. Even if I only know a few words of no real use:

Nya = meow

Neko = cat

And I believe Domo Arigatou = Thank you very much or something. Domo means Thanks, I know that. So uhhh, if some Japanese person ever waves hi or something, just say Domo to thank them... XD

Seriously, you should go. You might pick up something... maybe the Japanese family knows some English and they can help ya... You might not ever get an invite to go somewhere again... and come on, Japan rocks! I say go! ^.^

Hate to burst your bubble, Arigato is "thanks." Domo Arigato (Gozaimasu) does mean "Thank you very much."

Meow is actually "Nyau".

Sorry.

I know quite a bit of Japanese, but my school stopped the exchange to Japan and we are going to Quebec instead. I don't really want to go to Quebec as much, but....

Domo = Thanks (informal)

Arigatou = Thankyou

Domo Arigatou = Thankyou (more polite)

Domo Arigatou Gozaimazu = Thankyou very much (Very polite).

...For some reason, I find that amusing.

The only Japanese I know is from my karate class- I can count to 30, and say "Thank you", "dojo", and "teacher". Lol. We studied Japan in 5th grade though, and it seems like a great place to visit.

I've gotten those People-to-People student exchange programs also for about the past 2 years. I'd love to go, but I don't like the idea of leaving my home, family, and friends left behind while I head of with a bunch of strangers to a foreign country. Even if it is perfectly safe, I just don't like the idea of it.

A side that, there was this rather discouraging story I heard about one of my grandfather's friend's daughter who went on a similar program to some country (I forget which). She ended up getting kidnapped while she was there. They found her after a few days with some guy trying to sell her off to people. Scary. o_o
