i want to hear all your thoughts on tattoos.

i think i will finally have the money this winter break to get the tattoo i've been wanting since tenth grade--that's seven years now! i'm going to get a teeny tiny lizard behind my right ear.

what about you?

No offense, but I really do not think highly of people who get tattoos. Why should you pay to experience pain and a permanent skin decoration? It's not as if plain, untattoed skin is ugly... Imagine if 30 years down the road, you decide you don't want a picture of a dragon on your back anymore, what would you do? Furthermore, tattoos are associated with ruffians and gangsters, at least in my culture and society, anyway.

Just my two cents, I hope I don't offend any tattoo fans around here...

For some people it has to do with their culture. Many different groups of indigenous people from places like new zealand, africa, the middle east and south america tattoo themselves because it's been what they've been doing for many hundreds of years.

Considering that I do design tattoos (though I don't have one... yet), and that my brother is a tattoo lover, I do take a bit of offence. Not all tattoos are associated with ruffians and gangsters; thats a huge misconception where I come from. Many perfectly nice people have tattoos where I live, and many people do it for different reasons.
The other misconception is that theres only one way to get rid of them (and no I don't mean via Cheese grater). Theres a new procedure out (though still in testing), that leaves no scarring (unlike laser). Basically you inject whats like a soap beneath the skin, and it washes away all traces of the tattoo. They're still testing it, but if it works... it could revolutionize the amount of tattoos people get. So if down the road, you want to get rid of that dragon on your back; you can without having blistering scars all over your body.

I don't think tattoos are a bad thing.

I'm 16, but I can legaly get a tattoo now if I wanted, but I want to be sure on what.
Everyone always says to me, 'but would you still want a tattoo when your 60 years old?', my answer is is why would I care, its not like im going around with a bikini then, and even if it is visible, it tells a story.

As for 'permanent skin decoration', I consider it more like artwork

I don't think highly of tattoos when people plaster their body with them, so it just looks awful, but I don't mind one or two. ^^

I want at least 4 more and I want the one on my left arm extending.
I don't think that it hurts very much otherwise I wouldn't have more done but other people find them very painful.

One of my best mate's dad's a tatoo artist so it doesn't bother me. I never used to want one but I'm thinking about getting a fairy on my hip. Fairies mean a lot to me and have a very personal symbolic meaning to me so I would't have anything else. The only thing I'd be worried about is if I would get bored of the design or not.

I see no problem with tattoos, and I may get one. Although my mind is now on getting something pierced.. My mom doesn't allow me to pierce my lip so I may pierce my brow or somthing.

I personally dont want to get one...but its up to the person...they dont bother me that much but it depends on what type of tattoo they got. Like my cousin has this sorta freaky grim reaper on his chest with a blade that has blood dripping off of it. Its pretty weird. Plus your not really allowed to get one in my religion.

I REALLY don't like em. I think that they are really ugly and and I would never want to get one. Thats just my opinion though.

I'm not fantasticly exitied about tattoos but I don't hate em either. I think they look good but I dont want a big recognisable brand anywhere on me.

I agree with you totally,except for the gangsters part. My brother has got one but hes a decent guy.

Besides the fact I dont like them,I dont believe a tattoo will look pretty on a 70 year old man.

I also hold a little grudge against tattoos..my brother could have paid back my parents for his plane ticket or done something for his kid(s) instead..or even saved it..

I'm also bit Shortin on the religion reason. I believe its something to frown upon in my religion. Atleast,I'd think..(No offence,though. I'm just saying..)

I personally have a neutral opinion about them. A lot of the people I associate with every day have them- my sister, who has a small sun on the back of her neck, Ken (a close family friend), who has a chinese dragon going down his arm, even friend's parents and grandparents among many others. Rather I'll end up getting one myself, I don't know yet. I wouldn't mind having a small one somewhere like my ankle.
