Well it seems like everyone here has given you some pretty good advice already, but I'll just add my little tidbit.

Remember that you have every right to approach your teacher about this, they're the one being unfair. Whatever you say will probably be fine. If any of the kids who have been picked on or have noticed other people being picked on like you have hear about you going to a teacher, you'll probably find some instant support.

In short, go get 'em!!

Be direct and to-the-point. Do not try to incorporate anything witty or long-winded. Irony is wasted on the stupid. Just tell it as it is: you're unhappy about his selective enforcement of the rules, and would like to see these rules applied more fairly. Elaborate and give examples as he asks for them.

And just hope your gym teacher is a reasonable man---how successful you are ultimately rests upon that.

I always take the extreme method, but when you take into account of your 'Never once sat down' thing, record it on video. Record what he says on tape. Write it from memory if you have too (though it will not be a good of an evidence).

This is a teacher. I know I'm steriotyping but I have yet to meet one who isnt, they dont want or like to be wrong in any way, they'll methaporically kick your butt for 'talking back' to them, they'll spread that you are a trouble student to all the other teachers. You will have to have alot of backing up before you confront him.

Recording actually might be more trouble than it's worth.

You'll have to bring some sort of device in with you to school, take it out, explain to the teacher WHY you want to use it, and get his permission (it's illegal to record people without their consent), and the chances they'll be happy about it is slim.

Better just to bring a couple of friends along, to stand a few feet behind, listen in, and be there for support/confirmation if needed.

How can recording be illegal? The American (and other) governments record your phone conversations :P

If you have any friends in Gym class use them as recorders :)

I know the feeling >.>

Just last friday a teacher..who isn't even -our- TEACHER gave us a class detention because a few people were messing around. He said *in these words exactly*;

"You can't complain about this, anyone who does complain will get another detention"

I had to bite my lip in order to stop myself yelling

"SIR, WE ARE ENTITLED TO AN OPINION, AND GUESS WHAT COMPLAINING IS?"

It's best to not get into an argument with him though. He can really shout. >.>

Although as soon as he let us out I called him something really rude to my friend. >.>

If this gym teacher is a nasty piece of work, and you know he'll just ignore you, then tell a different teacher, a nicer one. Teachers talk to each other alot, and the fact that me and my friend talked to a really nice teacher about us getting class detentions alot because of a few people has helped ^^ We haven't been shouted at since then, which is -actually- a mini record O.o

Make sure you have a good come-back for him. And if he gives you detention, don't go. Just tell him straight, you think it's very unfair and you shouldn't get a detention for having an opinion.

My advice, try to ignore it. :P Talking will only make things worse, if you ask me. But then again, I do not know the teacher.

I get annoyed by people that laugh at others. I don't like what they are doing. I get annoyed by unfair teachers. I don't like what they are doing.

But really, unless you have P.E. like, every day. Ignoring it is the best thing to do, imho.

Having people back you up is perfectly legal, making an actual audio recording without informed consent is illegal. In order for governments to use recordings obtained from a wire tap of any sort (telephone, electronic, fax, etc.) they need a warrant and the warrant must pre-date the instance of wire-tapping. Although illegal government wire-taps are often shown in cop shows and movies they are not a frequent occurance in real-life, they are frowned upon by the majority of law enforcement, and they are impossible to use in court.

Now, you could walk in to his office wearing a T-Shirt that says "This conversation may be recorded." That would count as informed consent.

The tape recorder idea isn't much good. While it would prove exactly what was said, it doesn't mean that the teacher will say something incriminating. In fact if they know they are being recorded (as they need to be under informed consent (unless you went way out of your way to get a warrant for a secret recording, but who would really give you that?)) they would probably be intentionally on best behavior. So that renders the tape recorder ineffective.

I still stand by my first statement that you need to record what happened on paper, sign it, date it and get others to back you up. I don't know your age or your classmates's ages, but even if you got one other person to confirm what you said the administration has to take you seriously. To some extent, even if you don't find anyone who is initially willing to back you up, they still have to at least investigate your discrimination claim.

I'm finally back for the summer, although hopefully I'll spend a little more time away from this screen.

Perhaps thats a good thing if they are on best behaviour.

You have a point there, but if that is the case is she going to tape record all her gym classes for the next year?
