I've been hearing about this on the news. I certainly think that it's interesting, but I do hope that nobody is hurt as a result of the eruption.

I hope the people in the immediate area have the common sense to leave.

The nearest houses were about 20 miles away (or was it 50?), but they evacuated those people too.

Whilst they may not get hit by molten rock they still will get severly Ashed at that distance.

I know it sent up some ashy stuff the other day that they called a mini-eruption or something but are ya'll saying it's going to erupt again????

My Aunt and Uncle used to live in Hoqueam (sp?) washington and they said that when it erupted that one time all the gas masks were sold out in town.I think my aunt still has family out there.

Hope anyone who'se in the path stays safe and dosen't get hurt.

We were talking about this in class. It would be cool to see it erupt, but the thing is you have no idea when exactly it will erupt so it is really dangerous. You could get out of the area, but how long do you stay? What if it never erupts? I hate it when things this serious happen. It really freaks you out.

On another front, what is with all the natural disasters lately??? I think mother nature is really angry about something or other.

It does seem like one natural disaster after another doesn't it? I mean the hurricanes one after another, flooding rains, sudden cold spells, and now eruptions. Well ok, technically hurricanes and eruptions are the only natural disasters, but there have been some pretty severe weather related incidents lately...or at least it seems so...

I know...The southerneastern most state (FL) is pounded by hurricanes while the almost northwesternmost state (WA) Has volcanoes. Well basically the whole east coast is getting the hurricanes,you get rid of one and comes another or it comes back. Then there's the reocurring cold spells up north,and who knows how long these volcano things will go on.

Don't you mean a volcano? Hawaii has many of them since it's right on a hot spot.

Ash as far as Pennsylvania? I heard that happened with a volcano in/near Yellowstone Park, but not with Mt. St. Helen.

Is it just me or is real life beginning to become parallel to the movie, 'The Day After Tomorrow'?

Don't forget about earthquakes in California

We can't forget those. There are probably many other weather related issues as well...not just in the US either...

I live north of it, near Seattle. Scientists are saying they don't think anything as big as what happened in 1980 will happen, but activity could go on for weeks. I'm not too worried, though I live far enough away that if something major did happen, I probably wouldn't be affected.

It's been pretty interesting, but I don't want it to last for very much longer.

Theres volcanos all throughout Canada and the US.
Most of them that i've heard of are dormant.
But the Rockies, and the Apachilacian (I know I butchered that word, and i'm sorry... but I just havn't seen it recently so it's not in my mind) mountains have quite enough volcanos.
And I do believe that the rim of fire... trails into the US?

Thats just a few of the 'active' volcanoes. There are many that are dormant.

I'm lucky that nothing much happens where I live. No hurricanes, no volcanoes. We get tornadoes, but tornado season (summer) is over. My region is sort of wedged between four sizable rivers, so flooding could be a problem, luckily we have floodwalls along the nearest one (the Ohio river).
That leaves one last thing... earthquakes. Most people can't believe that mid-america gets earthquakes, but we do. There's a fault line that runs close to the Mississippi river, from Memphis, TN to St. Louis, MO and we have earthquakes. We haven't had any big enough to cause major damage in over 100 years, but they say "the big one" could come anytime. And it wouldn't be pretty. Picture the St. Louis Arch tumbling into the Mississippi river. Not pretty at all.
