We have a sponsor day each year at school, for a charity of your year group's choice.

YOu either do a 10 mile walk or a silence. I have done 3 four-hour silences and 2 10 mile walks.

No, but I would be willing to. It shouldn't be too hard to for, I can remain silent if I wished to be.

If I attended public or private school I would participate, but being homeschooled it would be stupid for me to attempt to protest by staying silent.

I never participated in those because I thought that there needs to be LESS silence about these things and more action, a silent protest seems kinda anti-productive.

But by being silent in a enviroment where everyone is normally talking, you are drawing attention to yourself and therefore, to the issue you're protesting.

I've never heard of it, but it sounds like a good idea. I don't know how my teachers would take it, though. I'd probably end up having to talk.

No, I have never even heard of it before now. But it sounds amazing and I would most definitely participate in something like that.

My parents and teachers would NEVER let me do that. Also, it'd be very hard. I've tried.

No, I never officially left; yes, I am gone forever. I have also permanently left AIM. If you need to contact me, drop a line on LJ. Same username.

Nope... sometimes when I get mad at everyone I just don't speak all day, but one of those official protesting things - nope. It's hard enough for me not to talk 10 minutes :P

No, I'm much too talkative for that. The five minutes of silence for 9/11 were a strain, and I wholly agree with that.

Sucks if I ever get tortured.

Do what you will; but I will hinder it if I may.

Never heard of them.
Does it include no online talking too?

No need to drive me crazy, I'm close enough to walk.

I've done a day of silence for Gay Rights last year. It was actually easier than it sounds. Just go one day without talking isn't that hard.

And teachers usually let you do it. I got a pin to wear with a rainbow and my name. Whenever someone calls on you, just point to the pin and then they're okay with it.

The whole idea of being silent is to symbolize how people's opinions were silenced and now we see how it is not to communicate with the "world." I enjoyed it very much, and we had a great big party afterwards. We gathered around in the park and just SCREAMED. It was great. I'm doing it again this year! <3
