Depends on what you call my area. I used to live in Denver, and lots of bad stuff happens there... probably that one year the gangs went crazy and started killing everyone.

But now I live in Conifer, which isn't too far from Columbine High school, so yeah.

But I say the worst thing was the decision to *coincidentally* build a school across the street from the most secure prison in the world, and then get my parents to try to get me to go there. (The school was like a prison, I swear.)

I don't know, I'd say a bit more recently than most of that, the Hayman Fire was pretty bad for Denver and nearby areas, and the Conifer/Bailey area gets some pretty terrible fires/floods depending on the season and drought conditions. (I lived very close to Conifer for many years, back in the day. (= )

Really though, it was probably during the 1940, when Brampton was known as Buffys corner and consisted of a house and a railroad(haha, funny?) that we had major flooding issues.

Brampton is built on an ancient buria--er..it's built on a swamp. So, naturally the higher areas are generally forested and the others swamped. Anywho, the local officials back in the day were pretty angry because we continually flooded, there was one particularly bad flood where a couple of people had their chips cashed in.

To solve this problem, they built this huge resivoir around the whole of Old Brampton, its a particularly quirky to let your pet dogs run around in it.

I guess when a 14 year old girl was murdered early last year. :( Apart from that, I don't think anything else really bad has happened.

If you talk about the town I live in, Round Rock... Two years ago a pregnant woman was murdered in her home. The last murder in RR was like over 50 years ago. Also, a woman who was running in Georgetown (north of us) disappeared. It's been like 4 years, and there has been no sign of her.

If you talk about Austin, or the general area, then I guess the floods that happen every year. I can't really think of anything bad right now.

I guess we have suffered some major floods in the past century. Really heavy floods. But now we're masters at keeping the water where it is supposed to be.

I suppose WWII was bad. Our city got bombed to the ground, not many buildings were left standing. And all of the WW consequences.

But yeah, we turned out okay. :)

erm.. I guess either the local supermarket being burnt down, or the local bank being robbed with a sawn-off shotgun. Oh and a drugs raid near where one of my friends used to live. :)

Quite a bit actually.

Oh yeah, I just remembered one more. Lone Star Bakery (Home of the world-famous Round Rock Dounts[They're Orange!]) burnt down. Now yes, this may not seem like a big deal to y'all, but it was on every news cast for a month. x.X (They're good donuts. :P)

I live on the suburbs of a large city, so a lot of bad things are bound to happen in the area. In my particular suburb we got a day off of school my junior year thanks to the state police manhunt for an armed gunman who had murdered his girlfriend and her child and then fled into the surrounding neighborhoods (which bordered my high school and two of the district elementaries).

The most recent bad thing to happen was the flooding brought on by the hurricanes moving inland. Even the little town where I go to college an hour and a half away was declared a federal disaster area because of flooding from what is otherwise a little stream and the downtown area at home was even worse because we've got multiple rivers.

Lemme think...there's a little too much going on. Like today, in my school, two teachers got robbed or something and we had to evacuate. And besdies the shootings, um....plenty. Eathquakes in '06 and '89 and I'll think of more later.

A couple of high-profile murder cases happened awhile back.. I can't really think of anything else that was really awful.

Not the worst thing, but probably the most embarrasing is a statue on top of the big clock in the middle of town. Not until it was made and put up did people notice that it was a statue of Thirty-Thirty, the horse from Bravestarr. Apparantly the guy they hired got lazy and just ripped the design off one of his kid's toys.
