About a month ago, two old men who were coincidentally wearing turbans and were of the brown culture, were walking past my school. Some stupid grade 12 thought it would be funny to through snowballs at them. The old men were holding hands because of the fact their hips are very fragile and to keep balance, they need to support themselves on one another.

The grade 12 threw snowballs at them repeatedly. One old man raised his hand to his face to block them and said "Please! Sorry!" and kept repeating that phrase. His english isn't very good. The grade 12 ignored that and began to call him racial slurs and harsh cruel, swear words.

Now. What might I ask you runs through people's minds to do this? That is so cruel. I kept seeing flashes throughout the day of those men saying those words and being hit by snowballs. It really has taken its toll on me. I just keep thinking about them.

Unfortunately, I don't know if the grade 12 has been caught but I would sure as hell would try and stop him. Some people ignored it. I mean, they're being hurt. Honestly.

It just saddens me on how low the human race actually is. We were better of as non-existant. I just don't know how to stop thinking about it. Sometimes I do, but than it comes back in my mind. Call me a whimp or what not but it really gets too me. Right now, I just want to break down.

I know this is incredibly trite, but I think the media still promotes agressiveness in people around that age. The grade 12 kid probably started throwing the snowballs with simple "You're different so I don't like you-ness," but probably continued because s/he felt that actually listening and yielding to people so old and frail looking would be expressing that they're weaker than the old men.

That is without a doubt very sickening. I agree with you, some humans have just made such low standards for themselves. It's totally a shame.

It was announced on the school's announcement by the Principal. That's how I found out.

Like that Middle Eastern man who was held down to the airplane seat by the people sitting near him when he wanted to go to the bathroom... I keep imagining that happening to my dad...

Several contract builders (who were working on site helping to build a new computer block) a few months back was pelted with snowballs. But the students that were responsible were severely disciplined by several teachers who were very much peeved at incident. I don't know the race of the men, but I'm pretty sure they were white, but it's still sick.

P.S- The syndrome that you mentioned, the fragile bones one, it'sactually Osteogenesis and there is a girl who is in the younger years, and we were personally (as a year group) addressed to take care while walking around the corridors and especially when she was near, to make a point of getting out of her way, and to open doors for her.

Apparently, a knock to her arm, or any other bone, could break/fracture it. Though she's usually in a wheel chair alot. But she sometimes does walk. It's sad.

Personally, I don't know what religion or if background they were. I am brown myself. I just didn't hear what background he was. Therefore I think that was quite appropriate.

Where I work (and went to school, since I work at my alma mater), if you're white, you're white. If you're arab, subcontinental or otherwise asian, you're brown or asian; your choice.. If once you were black, you're black, African-American, or brown, whichever you prefer.

Brown: It's the "in" term, now.

EDIT: I should note that latinos sometimes join the brown crowd. It's all very confusing to a pasty germanoscot like me.

It annoys me that we're all the same species and we can't even get along. We have to divide ourselves by skin, something that just holds our organs in place. We divide ourselves by religion, something people believe in or carry over from their culture. We divide ourselves by abilities, something you are born with and can almost never change. We divide ourselves by gender, something that was chosen for us at the moment of our birth. We divide ourselves by preference, something that we have for love and happiness. We divide ourselves by clothes, something to keep us warm. We divide ourselves by age, something that we can't slow down or speed up.

Maybe it's naive but I don't understand why we can't sit down and just say, "Look. I live on earth. You live on earth. Let's live on earth happily together." Makes you wonder.

I just want to point out that those who witnessed the incident and did not interfere or get help are just as, if not more guilty than the jerk who threw the first snowball.

Cruelty boils me, but people who witness it, do nothing, and then complain about it afterwards positively enrage me. Cowardice is just as bad a crime in my eyes.

I know you weren't there when it happened, but those who were and just stayed silent should be punished along with everyone else. If people are so selfish that they'd watch something like that quietly for fear of ridicule, they're just as monstrous as people who think it's fun to throw snowballs at old men.

Ammer and I *gasp* know each other. During the prayer this morning(Cahtolic school) there is always a general murmur, however, it went quiet, we were all ashamed of this. The fact that such jerks were wearing our school emblem dissapointed a lot of us.

It's stupid, when a couple of kids believe they're surperior enough to do. It runs ramapant here sometimes, the supremist persona bleeds from some of the students here like a bad pimple.

It's irritating and wrong and theres too much of it here. Theres been reports filed by our school boards that do attribute it to the fact that we do attend secular systemed courses. Every course incorperates only one religion into it(Catholicism). Theres one course option(co-incidently, no future courses either) and thats exploring world religions.

I really do think that tolerance needs to be supported more, especially in our school. I know it's an unrealistic thought to think that we could have a totally tolerant society, but the idea of looking at other people and seeing the similarities rather than differences is just to good a facade to fall from.

The lack of diversity in your school's teaching materials is not to blame for this incident. The cruel, selfish, and sadistic beasts who harassed those old men are 100% responsible for their actions, and I sincerely hope that they get the pants sued off of them and get sent to jail. They are seniors, as in 17-18 year olds. A little vigilante justice from fellow students wouldn't be amiss, either.

I guess they are glad that I wasn't there. I HATE seeing people discriminated against and especially to people that couldn't even protect themselves!? It's people like them that make society as a whole look bad. In a perfect world, I would get them sued, removed from the school, arrested, and let the victims shoot them with a snowball gun at high speed until they had enough. A little physical punishment never hur... killed anyone. At this age, people are able to make their own decisions and should be prepared for the consequences. I've never seen 4 yr olds in the 12th grade.
