And animals don't have the same consideration for their own species?

Don't be afraid to see the truth, even if no one wants you to. Be yourself and not a fool. Don't ever be afraid to speak your mind and listen to criticism. Dissent is keeps our country progressive and willingness to challenge yourself is what keeps yourself ever evolving.

Speaking of looters, I hear that many are out looting hotels, souvenir shops, and homes. Some people stole anything they could, some stole TVs...argh. That's just...really really low.

That's unavoidable. It's always going to happen, unless something drastic is done. :o I mean, if people found out the next day that it was the end of the world, bet your rear end that a large multitude of people are going to start looting and doing other horrible things.

but on the flip side we dont really have free will.
we are slaves to our instinct (fight or flight reaction) our hormones, our wants and needs.
at the end of the day were nothing more than xenophobic apes, we care not for our "brother" man, not truly, not deep down, we do good things through guilt and fear, not because we actually care.
(although ofcourse as with everything there are the ocassional oddities, some people are capeable of selfless acts, just not as many as youd think)

That is not true. Every human being cares for something that is non material. I think it was also a terribly mean thing to say about people. It's horrible to question peoples' love for one another.

My mom made a donation today. I'm really glad that we're helping all those poor people.

mean? yes.
realistic? that aswell.

not all animals are xenophobic, it seems to be a bit of a primate trait really.

It's seems like someone's trying to wipe out some of the world population.

My friend's, who is like a little brother to me, uncle died during that tsunami. Apparently they found his body and were affirmative that he's dead. And now my friend is over at Malaysia (not sure).

Apparently this earthquake is a large one since 40 years ago. From what I've read in the HK newspapers. The situation would be worse if you think of it if it happened on Christmas day (bear in mind it happened early in the morning on the 26th).

Not so surprisingly, the ones that were killed were humans, not animals (and please don't go into how humans are animals >< You know what I mean). I think the animals ran up to a higher place, they just know. Funny how I watched this episode of Tarzan where the elephant was feeling weird and then the earthquake and it felt weird again and climbed up and there was a huge tsunami. Hm. Conincidence?

My piano teacher said something yesterday which kind of amused me. She said that in HK, the cheaper tourist groups (I suddenly forgot what they're called) would not die in the tsunami, reason for that is because their less quality hotels are up hill, meaning that they would be safe and when the leader person told them to go up hilll, it wasn't that far. Random fact, yes, but amused me for a while.

I'll tell you, I haven't really been too up to date with this, but I watched a little bit of the news with my mom and it's really sad..

It doesn't do much, but I just donated $15.

I thiink it's a matter of intellect versus instinct. We have those gut moments where our instincts tell us that something is wrong and that we should get out but then we try to rationalise it to bits and end up getting into a dire situation. There were people who came back after the first wave only to be swept away by the second one.

On a twilight zone note, i was in Phuket with my family about 7 years back but i only realised a few days ago when i was there. We checked in on christmas day, the next day we went out shopping along the little shops. If that quake had happened 7 years back i wouldn't be sitting here today.

One of my friend's sister lives in India, but she's rang home to tell everyone that she hasn't been affected as badly as other have.

It's going to be really hard for everyone living there to try and get their lives and such sorted. :(

I live in Malaysia, but I never felt anything during the quake. But still, the tsunamis didn't hit my part of the country, thank God.

As for those who suffered from it though, I feel terribly sorry for them. :( To have your whole existence just snuffed out like that...

Chrome, just wondering- you say if we'd had instince people would have sensed it been able to bail out. How much time do you think beforehand they would have sensed that it was going to happen? Do you really think it would have been long enough to evacuate the entire affected area? I really don't think so.

Y'know...

40 pounds (in money...my pound sign isn't working :P) will provide a family with fresh water for a week.

100 pounds will provide the materials to build 2 of the little houses things.

It's hard for teenagers/kid to donate money to a cause like this even if they want to.

But there should be cash collections going round various areas. You can give them any spare cash you have.
Also, there should be things setting up where you can donate old clothes, blankets etc. I know I'll be trying to donate clothes :)

The UK people has so far raised over £25 million in 2 days, and the government has provided £50 million. But still nowhere neare enough. :( The death toll is now around 125,000 people (with another 20,000 bodies estimated to be found), and 5 million are left without basic survival supplies (food, water, shelter etc).

You can donate at http://www.dec.org.uk - it's the Disaster Emergency Comitte made up of 12 major charities in the UK.

It's just so awful. :(

If anything, the US government should be giving more! Latest I've heard is $35 million and sending over a team of experts to assess damages. Well, um, assessment isn't what the people need. I'm going to suck it up and ask my mom if I can donate now.
Oh, and if you donate, make sure that it's a legit organization. People out there are sickos who take advantage of good-hearted citizens by creating "official" organizations to take in these donations.
