I'll help people with Japanese if you want :)

I started taking it in kindergarten. Believe me, it's...odd? I was in a Japanese immersion school, so half the day we had classes in English, and half the day we had classes in Japanese. But that first day when we went in there and sat down and the teacher was talking to us in Japanese (she was telling us to stand up, by the way) it took about a minute of her using gestures before we figured out what she meant.

Another thing - if you take Japanese and your teacher speaks Japanese fluently, don't irritate them. *shudder* There's nothing like being yelled at in very fast Japanese when you're in second grade.

I learn french in school too, but I'm better at reading than at speaking it .. my oral work is awful!

I can speak English (duh! :P) and Welsh fluently and would love to be able to speak Russian and/or Hungarian. We had a Hungarian exchange student live with us two years ago and the language sounds wonderful! Unfortunately everthing I learned from her (about 12 words) I've forgot....

I'd like to learn French, I think it would be fun.

No, it really isn't fun. French IMO is a very complicated language that doesn't have to be. There are like 10 ways to congegate a verb in the past tense. There are lots of rules and stuff too so if you are going to learn french be prepared to work :)

Um, actually no. Don't let him put you off, French is one of the more simple and logical languages to learn :)
There are 2 kinds of past tense- say you're using the verb 'to play' 'jouer', you can say 'I played' as 'J'ai joué' (which literally means 'I have played') or 'I was playing' as 'Je jouais'' (which is sometimes known as the past historic).

It really does make a lot more sense than if you were a french person learning english. There aren't many irregular verbs either (that you use) which is always useful. Latin is a bugger because, like german, you've got lots of different cases (ablative, genetive, nominative, dative, vocative...) as well as declensions and blah blah blah.

Maniac- Hmm. I always found Hungarian a rather ugly language, in which the people speaking always sound like they are arguing!

I think there is more than just two past tenses. I believe subjonctif has it's own past tense as well. As in doing two things in the past and subjonctif being the first thing you do in the past before the second thing you do in past.

I'm taking Spanish now, but I'm not really going to furthur it. I want to learn Japanese, and I want to go to the bookstore to buy some books. Wouldn't mind learning Latin either.

Aye, but in laymen's terms ;)
Those 2 are what you get when you start to learn french, there's no point scaring people with this talk of complicated stuff, because you don't get to that for ages!

Eek. You're right. I didn't mean to scare anyone wanting to take French or what not. It's actually pretty fun. And the grammar may seem hard but if you actually pay attention in class and do the homework (Unlike me) you'll do well. It's fun. Take it I say!

Haha. That's how it was when we just started our classes. Even after six months the teacher still has to use gestures multiple times to get us all to take stuff off of our desks.

I'm studying how to speak Spanish, since there's so many Latinos here in SC.

Juan passes a banana to his aunt? Are you sure you weren't born in Minnesota instead of Michigan? :P

I've always wanted to learn Dutch (I'm part Dutch, so why not learn the language??), Italian (for that future trip to Italy I'm planning), and Russian ( I really just love Russian accents)

Me gusta espanol mucho :D. But I'd like to learn French too one day, maybe.

Oh, and Hebrew. I can read it but can't understand it for the life of me.
