I'd like to learn French, I think it would be fun.
No, it really isn't fun. French IMO is a very complicated language that doesn't have to be. There are like 10 ways to congegate a verb in the past tense. There are lots of rules and stuff too so if you are going to learn french be prepared to work

There are 2 kinds of past tense- say you're using the verb 'to play' 'jouer', you can say 'I played' as 'J'ai joué' (which literally means 'I have played') or 'I was playing' as 'Je jouais'' (which is sometimes known as the past historic).

I think their is more than just two past tenses. I believe subjonctif has it's own past tense as well. As in doing two things in the past and subjonctif being the first thing you do in the past before the second thing you do in past.

Aye, but in laymen's terms
Those 2 are what you get when you start to learn french, there's no point scaring people with this talk of complicated stuff, because you don't get to that for ages!
