The third one. There's a new director, and it's less happy and Disney-ish.

Prisoner of Azkaban. The first movie was okay. The second? I hated the book, I abhored the movie. Horriblehorriblehorrible. Prisoner of Azkaban, even though I wish they could have added more from the book, was a great movie on its own, so it gets my vote. (Helps that the 3rd book is my favorite, too.)

I have yet to watch the 3rd, so I will not vote yet. But out of the first two movies, I like the second better.

The third one. Easily. John Williams finally got off his butt and went for originality, and Rickman, Oldman and Thewlis are all perfect. Well, Oldman neither looks nor acts how I imagined Sirius, but for some reason he's still effective. Daniel Radcliffe is really getting into his role - his wordless interactions with Thewlis trying to fill in the missing pieces of the story attest to that. It's the only dramatic movie of the whole bunch.

The fourth one will be the worst, even if they replace the screenwriter (Steve Kloves) with someone competent. You just can't fit the plot of Goblet of Fire into under two-and-a-half hours. The only non-essential bit is Rita Skeeter, I mean, even S.P.E.W. deserves more than a glance, as we now see.

If they get a decent screen-writer for Order of the Phoenix, it might be pretty damned good. Even within the two-and-a-half hour limit, because there's plenty that can be cut. Most of Harry's hissy fits, for example - that'll cut down a lot. They've alluded to finally explaining Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs in this film (well, it might also be the fourth one, but that wouldn't fit at all, especially in the narrow time frame they've set.) I want Angela Landsbury to play Umbridge - come on, we all know she wants to play a villain for once.

Do what you will; but I will hinder it if I may.

Bookwise, three and four are the best.

Filmwise, they're all awefull, but three's the worst. All the new cast members really don't fit with the characters. The first would win by default.

The fourth, I would assume, will be even worse.

Same here, I haven't watched the 3rd one yet but I'm sure it's great, the previews were cool.
