For those topics one could describe as the forum equivalent of a twinkie. Word games, forum contests and giveaways are all the rage here.

Here's my random little thoughts.
If you had to have a sidebar on Neopets that you had to use often (not just in your userlookup), what would it look like? I'll use moogie's as an example. The image you chose was gorgeous, and indeed, the focus was set on it. However, if you're cruising around the Neopets website constantly, and you had to use that constantly...I'd say it'd be a pain making sure you clicked the right link. Also, because your focus was solely on the image, and little on background, the lower portion of the sidebar was somewhat empty.
Whether a judge decided to rate them on function or not was left up to them.

So wait...you didn't make it a requirement that they had to function, so some of us just made a cool looking sidebar to show off what we could do with an image.
But you're letting the judges rate on how it functions, even though that wasn't even mentioned in the guidelines.
...This seems distinctly unfair.

I have to disagree with you there: as I said, a Neopets sidebar is a requirement in itself in my opinion. If you go and make a quote "cool looking sidebar to show off what we could do with an image" Flame could have just left out the Neopets part, which was highly ignored anyway as it seems.

I agree with Silja. The statement "Neopets sidebar" bears the implication that it should work. I'll go back to my car analogy:
Pretend you were asked to design a car, and you drew up a really beautiful plan, but it didn't have room for an engine. The company could love the design, but they wouldn't make it, at least not with heavy alterations. Is it the car company's fault for not telling you that it had to be able to drive and have room for all the essential parts?
You should also remember that this is just a game, a fun learning experience. Judges were chosen partially based on their experience, and it is our experience that makes some of us value function over looks. Those of us who do passed on this advice; it is your choice to go against it by calling it unfair.

If you take a look at how each judge rated, you'll notice that votes were not solely based on function.
For instance, if I had made my decisions based on practicality rather than artistic ability/creativity, I would have selected moogie to go without hesitation (moogie, I apologize for using your entry as an example; it's just the most vivid one), along with about half the entrants.
Along with what Silja said, the object you are to recreate is supposed to be just that -- a different piece of art, but still the same object. Remember the blog round? It wasn't a specified requirement to make a functional blog, but the implication is that it would function as such if ever called upon to do so. The same thing applies to a Neopets sidebar.
Edit: thanks for beating me to the punch, Marissa. =P

I'd say the judges have just said everything I could have said.
Amethyst, if you still think ratings were unfair, then please feel free to PM me.

Shadowfare and ScottNak cannot participate in this round.
And now...
THINK PINK!!!
Yes, this a round requested by the lovely supereditors of Pink Ink. (Yoshi, Spira, and Xil.)
Requirements
-NO NEOPETS IMAGES/FANART
-Make a button (should be
this size.
AND/OR
-Make a banner. (It should be around the size of the banner found
here.
-This should reflect Pink Ink in some way, obviously. It's for advertising, so it needs to get the point across in a good way.
-Some of your banners/buttons will actually be used, because that is the purpose of this round.
Feel free to ask questions.

Haha, when I asked six weeks ago if we could do this, I was probably too excited, haha.
Anywho, yes. A lot of the stuff will be used. But I really wanna stress one of Flamies points in particular:
Do not use neopets IMAGES/FANART/TRADEMARKED WORDS. It's not to make it difficult, it's actually a legality. If you did, it would mean a lot of trouble for The Pink Ink and definitely for PPT.
Good luck to all of you! We're looking foreward to seeing what you can come up with!

So...are there any base images we can use, or is this supposed to be entirely freeform?

Base images? Well, I don't have any images to provide for you to use. So you can use pretty much whatever image you choose or no image at all if you want. It's up to you.

Do what you want, as long as it's not a long shot from PI.
