All those lovely buttons. Pfft. Hey, why isn't there a PPTTG button there? :P

I'd just like to come in and commend all your efforts, they all look great. :) Just to let you know, the banners will be used on the main site. Buttons I'm not sure of, but I'm sure Yukio will work something out. Hopefully everything here will be included.

<b>Kyra</b> -- I think the grid overlay is too strong for the thin border, which doesn't seem to hold together the button well. The text is also really choppy; I'm not sure if it was the font or if it was because you didn't keep it anti-aliased. It's also slightly off center.

<b>meowth1982</b> -- The text in the background against the flourescent colors make it incredibly hard to read. I dislike how all the main objects are concentrated more on the right side, as it throws off the balance of the image. The font you chose for "Because anything else..." is clumsy and unattractive. The random swirly hearts add to the chaos; they don't really fit in anywhere. Also, the border isn't dark enough to frame the banner.

<b>paola</b> -- Pretty! The different tinges of pink work out really well. The only complaint I have is that the font is slightly illegible. If I didn't know what it was supposed to say, I wouldn't have known what it was.

<b>Hellyer</b> -- This image is pretty simplistic. The swirl brushes are pretty and all, but there isn't anything that stands out. I think the thick black border is a bit much, especially since the rest of the banner is a soft pink. Inkburrow is a cool font though.

<b>Neko</b> -- Even though it's really pretty, it's a bit busy. You did a good job of filling up space and avoiding monotony. I just think the "Pink Ink" should stand out more, because it'd be really eye-catching if it was.

<b>Darklengendary</b> -- I love the font you used for the text and I especially love how it stands out against the rest of the pinks. The border could be thicker, though.

<b>Apricus</b> -- I love it! I think the "pink" in the "pink is the new black" is a bit hard to read though. The "black" overwhelms the rest of the image, because it's so strong. You also should have moved the whole sub-text thing over to the right more, to make a bigger distinction from the main text.

<b>moogie</b> -- As glad as I am to see something different, "The Pink Ink" should stand out more. The shade you chose to tint everything makes the banner look really washed-out and not very eye-catching.

<b>Koku</b> -- Different! Awesome. The only complaint I have is that "Pink Ink" isn't vivid enough. A lighter stroke color would fix that problem.

<b>Amethyst</b> -- wow. Bright. Again, I think that "Pink Ink" should stand out more against the really bright background. A two-pixel stroke would remedy that.

<b>Optimus</b> -- The bar around "pink ink" needs to be bigger. And I guess I don't like that the splattered ink is purple. I do like that it's very unique though. Good job.

Votes go to Kyra, Meowth1982, and Hellyer.

I like the rainbowy background and the dots and whatnot. But I'm still trying to figure out what's going on with the text. It's unsmooth around the edges...It might've looked better if it was transparent or something. (Or is that why you were maybe trying to do?) Also, I'm not overly fond of the black border.

meowth1982
The different texts running across the background are the best feature of this, and I like that you've use different shades of pink and purple. The text is an okay choice because it looks like typewriter print, and the word black really stands out. My suggestion would be to maybe get rid of the hearts. They're cute, but don't have much to do with PI. Also the text 'Pink Ink' hurts my eyes.

paola
It's pretty. I like the pink color you've chosed. However, the curved edges of this look a little rough. Also, the text 'Pink Ink' is very hard to read, which isn't good for a button that might be used on the PPT homepage. People need to know what they're clicking on. ;)

hellyer
The shape reminds me of a neopets top banner. Hm... I like the main font. Definitely looks like handwriting. However, there maybe should have been more to the background. The swirls are nice, but this is overall sort of plain looking. Some sort of black pen design or something might've looked nice in the empty space.

Neko
It's pretty. Not much to do with Pink Ink itself...I'd suggest adding some sort of text or pen/pencil image. The background is a bit busy with all different color shades. The font sort of blends in too much as well, so that needs to stand out.

Darklegendary
It's hard to actually see the background text, at least on my computer. I love the text Pink Ink on this. The checkers around the border are a nice touch. I'm not overly fond of the swirls though.

Apricus
I like your font choices, as well as the placement. The background is cool looking, however I think the text should have stood out more. That'd make it more obvious as to what PI is. The fact that text is actually in there is really hidden by other details in the background.

moogie
It's purple. =P But that's okay. This one is really nice, and definitely shows what Pink Ink is and obviously advertises for you to read it. I guess my one problem with it this the purple, and the shade of purple is a little dull looking to me. (Though it could be from looking at all the much 'pinker' entries)

Koku
Don't hurt me for criticizing your drawing, but the pencil is very kiddish. So is the main font. I like the text running around the background, seeing as it's actually stuff from PI I think. However, the background is still a little plain. But actually, this entry still is sort of cute looking.

Amethst
Very nice. Pink Ink definitely stands out, it's a good font choice, and I like the hot pink color scheme. The large ink splatter really makes this look good, and the horizontal blend of the hot pink and white...Very nice. :)

Optimus
Another purple entry...Okay. My suggestion would be to make this pinker. The background is cutting it close, but the ink platter is most definitely purple. So immediately when the text Pink Ink becomes bold, you see purple ink...which is sort of...odd.

Yeah, I was trying to make it transparent. Let's just say I'm extremely out of practice with that. :P I couldn't fix it without making other parts look worse, so I figured I'd leave it and get the boot. XD

Kyra - You've done a good job with the background, however, the overall look of the image is a bit too messy, kind of like some color inferno with a text that is trying to bug into it.

meowth1982- To put it simply, this is a way to messy banner. I realize you tried to get some kind of newspaper effect using different fonts for text-parts in the background, but it all became just too much. The main fonts are hard to read because their colors blend in to the background too much and the swirly heart thingies on the sides (brushes? just wondering) don't match the rest and make everything even more messy.

paola - First of all, if I didn't know from the beginning that the main text says Pink Ink I wouldn't have a clue of how to interpret it. Also, I'm not sure what's going on with the border area in the corners, was it supposed to be completely rounded, or somewhere in between rounded and square? On the plus side, the background looks great.

hellyer - Lets see, gradient for background, swirl-brushes, thick black border and then simply a black text placed upon that? This is way too simplistic and doesn't really show that you've put that much thought into it. For example, the border should definitely not be black, and even though the font itself works well it doesn't look good as plain black on a pretty empty and weak background,

Neko - The text would have been better if it would have stood out a bit more, something eye-catching. Al though the background has no obvious flaws, it is almost to vivid and lively.

Darklegendary - I love this one, great job! You've managed to build up a harmony between the components; the font for example is very well chosen and placed properly with nice effects. I'm not sure if I like the swirls, however.

Apricus - Also a very good entry, good job. The black stands out a bit too much, maybe a lower opacity would have been a good option for it. Also, good choice of border, a thick one seldom works, but it sure does now.

moogie - Great graphics, but I'm not satisfied with the colors. If this would have been for the "Purple Ink" it would have been good, however... I know it's nothing that is stated in the rules (eg. "you have to use pink"), but you have to start thinking more about function instead of concentrating only on making it look good. A good graphician takes everything into consideration.

Koku - This looks kind of dull to me. The drawing is a bit too childish; at least I would imagine something more elegant, yet scribbled for Pink Ink. The background is a bit too empty and monotonous.

Amethyst - Ooo, this one's bright. The text needs to stand out more, and a one-color border wouldn't hurt (looks like the text layer has slipped over it ).

Optimus - Yet again, this is more purple than pink. You need to think about the function a bit more, considering this is meant for the Pink Ink and it would be far more suitable with a more pink-ish color. I'm not too fond of the small box where you've crammed the pink ink text.

Choose three? Tough one, but my votes go to hellyer, paola and meowth1982.

I kinda figured I'd be going in this round, cause I really had no inspiration for this at all and I didn't want it to look like everyone else's. Thanks for the reviews, and even though it wasn't my best work, I'll take it to heart.

to judges: I didn't even realize it wasn't pink until after flame posted her comments. I thought it was just much deeper, more on the gret side of pink. quite sorry about that, my mistake, I did mean for it to be pink. I think the monitor on the computer I did it on has problems, this wouldn't be the first time my computer mesed something so trivial up. thank you for your comments, looking back, I would have made the text stronger too.

to silja: could you explain to me what you find about the piece to be non-functional? sorry if that sounds rude or anything, I'm just wondering for next time

Amethyst: I think the color is good, very eye-catching, which is good for a button (especially when it's on a page next to a bunch of others). The ink splatter in the background is very appropriate. The only real problem I see with this is the font. It's very light and rather hard to read, I'd have gone with a stronger font so that it didn't look like it was part of the background pattern. 8.5/10

Apricus: I really like the background you made, the words tie it to a newspaper theme, but it's not overpowering. My only suggestion would be you use a different font for "pink" and "black." Violation is definitely an overused font, and it's very recognizable. Also, like everyone else said, the black looks really out of place with all the light pink. 9.5/10

Darklegendary: I really like the composition of this one, the text stands out a lot, and I think the background suits Pink Ink very well. The only thing I don't like is the swirl brushes. Swirl brushes are also overused and easily recognizable. 9.5/10

hellyer: I'm sorry, but the only thing I actually like about this banner is the font you chose. The background is made from a bunch of swirly brushes, and the borders look like they were made with the rounded rectangle tool. It doesn't show much effort on your part. 4/10

Koku: I'll commend you on doing it all from scratch, it's definitely cute and has a wacky look to it. "Pink Ink" is a little hard to read, I think you should have used a larger or sharper edged brush to draw it, or used a slightly darker color. The background is a little dull, it would have looked cool if you'd varied some of the text or used a patchy color overlay like you often do. 8/10

Kyra: Neat background. The transparency around the text looks really choppy, I think it would have looked much much better if you'd left it opaque. 8/10

meowth1982: I think this actually could have been a very nice banner. The composition of the fonts is very creative and effective, and you had a good idea with the background. The real problems are with how you chose to express these ideas. The background is looks very thrown together and rushed, and the fonts you chose weren't the most fitting or legible. The part I like least is probably the swirly hearts around the edges. 7/10

moogie: Neat. Reminds me of those color toned flyers that distributors sometimes mail out. Besides the whole "it's purple," I also think it's rather unfitting to use a newspaper clipping of a natural disaster. 9.5/10

Neko: The background you made is really generic, it almost looks like you made it for another banner and then changed the text for this round. With the background so busy, it's very hard to read the text. 6/10

Optimus: Very creative. I think the silhouette of the inkwell and nib is really too strong, it would look nicer if it was lighter or another color. Not much else to say, but the ink splatter does look pink to me... 8.5/10

paola: This one is very nice, I like the background a lot, and the darker stripe behind the subtext is a good idea. The display font, though, is totally illegible. 8.5/10

I vote out hellyer, meowth1982, and Neko.

Kyra - The rainbow colours are very nice, it makes your banner stand out since the rest of the entries are predominantly pink. You still got the point across by making pink as the central colour though, and that was good. To echo the other judges, the font looks a bit messy/pixelly... A 2-3px stroked border would have looked a bit cleaner.

meowth1982 - I like the background you've made, the variety in text sizes and fonts makes it especially interesting. Overall, though, I find this banner a bit ... jumbled feeling. The different shades of pink - the bright main text, the darker coloured hearts and the purpley-pink background - don't really compliment each other. The main "pink ink" font is very nice, but although the newspaper-print-styled subtext font is a good idea, I think the stroke effect draws attention to its messiness, in a bit of a negative way.

paola - Lovely textures and feel to this banner. Those deeper pinks are really great! I like the horizontal lines/dots, they really add a dynamic feel to it. I don't really have much else to say, except maybe a less cursive font would easier to read ^_~

hellyer - Hehe, this reminds me of the neopets banner too. That's possibly a good thing, though, as the neopets banners are usually quite clear and to the point (as well as nice to look at), which this one is! I think as a banner, this serves it's purpose very well... the black text contrasts a lot against the lighter background, making it easy to read quickly. As an example of your graphician-ness, though, something a little extra seems to be needed. The text overlaying the swirls looks really nice, by the way... maybe expanding on that idea a bit more would've been nice ^_^

Neko - Lovely background, the grids and checkered pattern look really nice against those soft-edged blobs of colour (hehe, I don't know how else to describe them!). The text looks good, the thin white outline fits in well with the swirls scattered around the rest of the banner. The text seems to merge in the background a bit too much, though. A bit more contrast there would be good, especially since the background is quite busy.

Darklegendary - This is really nice! The background has a lovely mix of textures, and it's nice to see swirls that don't look quite as obviously "brushed" (I think you worked them into the background well on the left there). The text looks great, very inky... especially with those blobs you've added. The only thing I'd suggest is that maybe it'd be nice to see a bit more of that newspaper article in the background... you can barely see it in the finished product, and it's a nice element.

Apricus - Very nice use of brushes and textures, I like the print in the background too. The black text seems to jump out a bit much. It might be a little less "sudden" if all of the subtext were black, or maybe stroked in black (to be a bit more subtle). Overall very good though.

moogie - Great idea! The newspaper style certainly stands out, and also illustrates the subject very well (in spite of the lack of bright pink-ness!). The slightly purpley shade of pink is nice and works well with the newspaper print, though it does make it seem less bold and bright as some of the others. And to be very very picky, the "Read it today!" text seems to be on a slightly different slant to "The Pink Ink"... not something you'd pick up on normally though ^_~

Koku - Ooh, it's so nice to see original artwork in this competition! The pencil's very cute, and the yellow makes a good contrast with the pink. I'm not such a big fan of the text (I'm guessing it's hand drawn/written?), it looks maybe a bit childish, since I imagine that Pink Ink would prefer a more "sophisticated" look. If it was for anything else though, I'd say that it matched the style of the pencil really well (cute/childish). Also, I think the text in the background might've added more interest to the banner if it were on a slight angle... it looks pretty good as is though!

Amethyst - Very nice! The strong pinks you've used are really eye-catching, and the textured background and scanlines look great too. As the other judges mentioned, it'd be good if the text stood out a bit more... also, the font you've chosen is very "tall" (the verticals of the "I"s and "k"s are twice as high as the rest of the font)! I imagine that if the outline were stroked, it might overpower/balance the banner a bit, since it is so small. Maybe a slightly shorter font would need to be used in that case... but as it is, it looks great!

Optimus - Cool image and animation idea. I find it a bit confusing though that the text is "pink ink" but the ink splatters are purple... maybe if the banner on the whole was purple (or some other contrasting colour) and the ink was pink, it might've gotten across this idea better? On the whole though, it's creative and eyecatching... which is perfect for a banner.

Mm, it's starting to get difficult to decide who to choose!
This round my votes go to: meowth1982, Kyra and hellyer

What I mean with function is mainly the idea for it to be pink. Obviously Pink Ink can and will use it (nothing wrong with measurements, text, file-types etc.), but I was just refering to the color-suitability :)

Well, this is the round most everybody hates.

Round Requirements
-Make a wallpaper
-Use an anime image, or no image at all
-Make it either 800x600 OR 1024x768
-Remember the magical little fact that wallpapers have a function.

:) You have 5 days.
