I know that it seems like a lot of really famous people having been dying or are close to death lately, Terri Schiavo, Johnny Cochran, the Pope, but death really hit me tonight when I saw that Mitch Hedberg died at age 37.

I don't know if anyone here has seen his work, but he was a really funny comedian--once you see him you never forget him--long hair, blue tinted sunglasses, laid-back guy. He's been on Letterman and Howard Stern and used to be on Comedy Central quite a bit. I happened to catch him on Comedy Central tonight--hadn't seen him around in a while and had really missed him--and then at the end of the show it said "1968-2005." What do you mean 2005?, I said in disbelief. So, I checked the internet and sure enough, he died two days ago.

I am sad.

I've never really seen his work, but a couple of my friends were very upset when they found out he had passed away. :(

My guess is that Comedy Central will be showing his work off and on this weekend--as a tribute.

It hit me really hard too. For days and days, we've seen nothing but death, death, death on all of the news shows--gradual dyings and deaths of very famous people. Almost to the point of where a person would get used to seeing it, you know? But, it really hits home when it is someone not so famous, just doing his thing, living, breathing like all of the rest of us. And way too young.

If I'm not mistaken, my friend is a big fan of him. I'll have to ask him...
It's very upsetting and yes, it does seem like there has been a lot of deaths lately. Just goes to show you, we have to make the most of life because you never know.

Many deaths. This is hitting me hard, because they're just like... us...

-.-

I'm going to get tearful again if I carry on - but I did catch him on the comedy show last night while I was cleaning out my hyperactive hamster. Didn't see the end, though.

Thank you for starting this thread MorningStar. I was thinking of starting one earlier today, but then wasn't sure if I should put it in Misc. Discussions, Movies & Television or Jokes. And then I got tired, so I left. I'm glad you're here to pick up the slack. :P

I highly recommend his two CDs if you want someone that will have you laughing on the floor and not let you get up.

The man was a genius. There a few quotes of his that I would really like to post here if they weren't inappropriate.

If you feel that you are of an appropriate age or you can sneak past the bouncers, check out some of his quotes with that may contain the occasional cuss here:http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Mitch_Hedberg

I haven't heard of him before, but judging from his quotes and your comments, I can see that he is a talented young man... sad that he had to die. :(

Thanks for the link, coming2atvnearu. An amazing amount of jokes there.

The one I will never forget:

Quote:
I had a box of Ritz crackers and on the back of the box of Ritz crackers it had all these suggestions as to what to put on top of the Ritz. It said 'Try it with turkey and cheese.' 'Try it with peanut butter.' Oh, c'mon man, they're crackers. That's why I got 'em — I like crackers. There ain't no suggestion: 'Put a Ritz on top of a Ritz.' I didn't buy 'em 'cuz they're little edible plates.

*wipes tear from eye*

Rest in peace, Mitch.

I know many of you have seen him before. This is him:

This is some of his stuff (the only clean stuff I could find, lol):

Quote:
I want to be a race car passenger: just a guy who bugs the driver. "Say man, can I turn on the radio? You should slow down. Why do we gotta keep going in circles? Can I put my feet out the window? Man, you really like Tide..."

I got in an argument with a girlfriend inside of a tent. That's a bad place for an argument, because then I tried to walk out, and had to slam the flap. How are you supposed to express your anger in this situation? Zip it up real quick?

I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside. Run. He's fuzzy. Get outta here.

My sister wanted to be an actress, but she never made it. She does live in a trailer. She got half way. She's an actress, she just never gets called to the set.

I'm against picketing, but I don't know how to show it.

I like vending machines, because snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at the store oftentimes I will drop it, so that is achieves its maximum flavor potential.

I bought a seven dollar pen because I always lose pens and I got sick of not caring.

I bought a doughnut and they gave me a receipt for the doughtnut...I don't need a receipt for the doughnut - I give you money and you give me the doughnut, end of transaction. We don't need to bring ink and paper into this. I can't imagine a scenario that I would have to prove that I bought a doughnut. To some skeptical friend, Don't even act like I didn't buy a doughnut, I've got the documentation right here...

This shirt is dry clean only. Which means...it's dirty.

I played golf...I did not get a hole in one, but I did hit a guy. That's way more satisfying...

...You're supposed to yell 'fore' but I kept thinking there ain't no way that's gonna hit him.

I love blackjack. But I'm not addicted to gambling. I'm addicted to sitting in a semi-circle.

I went to the park and saw this kid flying a kite. The kid was really excited. I don't know why, that's what they're supposed to do. Now if he had had a chair on the other end of that string, I would have been impressed.

I opened up a container of yogurt, and under the lid it said Please Try Again because they were having a contest I was unaware of. But I though I might have opened the yogurt wrong...or maybe Yoplait was trying to inspire me, c'mon, Mitchell, don't give up. Please try again. A message of inspiration from your friends at Yoplait. Fruit on the bottom, hope on top.

An escalator can never break. It can only become stairs. You would never see an "Escalator Temporarily Out Of Order" sign, just "Escalator Temporarily Stairs. Sorry for the convenience."

I don't have a girlfriend. But I do know a woman who'd be mad at me for saying that.

My friend said to me, "You know what I like? Mashed potatoes." I was like, "Dude, you have to give me time to guess. If you're going to quiz me you have to insert a pause."

I was at this casino minding my own business, and this guy came up to me and said, "You're gonna have to move, you're blocking a fire exit." As though if there was a fire, I wasn't gonna run. If you're flammible and have legs, you are never blocking a fire exit.

He was very laid back, and I'll miss his stand-up. :(

She was, after all that media hype around the feeding tube issue.

I've never heard him perform but it seems like he was very funny. It's a shame he was so young. Anybody know how he died?

Supposedly, it was a heart attack (though rumors abound about drugs--nasty rumors). His mother said he was born with some sort of a heart problem and had always worried about it.

And, snippet, I agree that Terri Schiavo was not famous "per se." What I mean to say is that she wasn't famous before all of the media hype happened to her and probably would have been extremely embarassed to know that she had been in everyone's houses via TV satellite for over a month--but nonetheless, she became famous because of what happened to her. Congress going into session on a weekend to make a law that applied only to her--the President OKing that law--that is infamy whether she wanted it or not.
