Wow, people. Everyone needs to calm down a bit. So you've gotta pay $4 for a game...SO WHAT? It's an avatar. A single freaking avatar. A 50x50 pixel image. So now that you need to pay for a tiny avatar, the whole site isn't gonna be free anymore? No. Just take it one step at a time. If you don't want to pay $4, then don't. Plan and simple. You don't need to complain and boycott Neopets because you can't get "that really neat avatar you want"!!

I just hope that TNT doesn't make us start to pay to play Neopets. That would be real bad. So many people would leave if that happened.

The problem is that Neopets from the beginning set out an ideal that everything on the site is free. You could aspire to be the best at whatever you wanted in Neopia and all you needed was the will, the skill and a little luck.
Now, however, that ideal has been compromised. Someone in Denmark, for example, can never be the #1 avatar collector.
This is a horrible, horrible mistake. I sincerely hope that the Neopets Team gets their heads out of their pockets and their dung holes and realign their priorities.

As for the avatar, I'm not trying to claim that TNT is now going to start charging us to go on the site, but it would have been much better if we just had to go to the mobile page to get it. We've never had to pay in any way to get avatars, and I don't think that should change.
I like being able to buy neopets merchandice, plushies and perhaps cell phone games alike, but I think merchandice and the site itself should be kept seperate, with just the few ties such as rare item codes. TNT also could make a greater use of their merchandice news page (which oftentimes is rather outdated), and put all news on plushies and such there.
I mean, I love being able to get my neopets plushies at McDonalds, for example, but at the same time the McDonalds stuff on the site is really feeling like too much, and I really hope they'll tone it down for future promotional events.

*looks annoyed* my phone also does not support java, and i bet you couldn't do it on the plan i'm on, it blocks most things, including the logos people send me, ring tones, its not going to let me download a game for heavens sake *grumble*

I don't know why you ~all are starting to complain now. There had been an avatar before (Space faerie) + some games that required paying something. It isn't the first time TNT pulled that kind of thing. I know it's kind of deceiving from them to do that, but it's their choice(or at least the choice of the avatar master).

Keep in mind that not only do you have to own a cell and pay, but you also have to live in the US!!

Well i can't get it either. One my phone doesn't download games and Two, i never have any credit on it.
