Its all the idiots. There are loads, and loads, and loads of (probably inbred) idiots in the USA, in the UK, in europe, asia, south america, canada. The world is full of such utter stupidity that sometimes I feel eugenics should be reintroduced, go pseudo-nazism-that-was-supported-and-campaigned-for-in-the-usa-and-england-which-you-dont-learn-about-in-history-do-you-for-more-clarification-just-ask-ill-stop-now. As soon as something becomes popular, woompsh, all the idiots come and join it, and duff it up. And really, mcdonalds, at least in england, caters for the scum of society. For all their stupid "salad plus" bull, (incidentally the salad dressing they use for that has the highest fat content of any mcdonalds product) they 75% of the time do not serve polite, respectable people that you would enjoy playing on neopets with.

Down with the rude idiots! Stab them in the eye!

I acctualy think that the new people that come to neopets are rude. The beg for stuff, and are selfish, and at the end get frozen. Thats why most of the rude people are new, because they don't last as long... o_O

Well, actually, we "neomillionaires" are not rude and selfish, we just dont (or didnt for me ;)) feel obliged to give out the stuff that we work hard to get to random strangers who are too lazy to do it for themselves. You know, at first you try to to be nice, but eventually too many people say "send me x_item because you are rich and i deserve it" etc etc and you havent got the energy to explain why you dont want to, only for them to call you rude and selfish, ya see?

You want to be making friends with the rich folks, generally they are a lot nicer than your standard New Member who may or may not transgress into a New Member.

It's not you. It's society in general.

It works expotentially. The more people you introduce in one congregated place, the lower the bar drops in terms of intelligence.

For example, whereas you may have an intelligent conversation with 20 people, you'll be hearing primative grunts and fights with 30.

I don't mind giving items sometimes, actually. Sometimes I'll go to the Quest boards and give them the items if they're not too expensive. I don't get many e-mails asking for stuff, but when I do, I'll give them something out of my inventory, since I never have anything too valuable there. Or if someone says it's their b-day, I'll send over a scratchcard or something. You make friends like that sometimes (Except for the ones who beg, since I don't socialize with them. I just send them something and say 'good luck with what you're saving up for', etc.)

pseudo-nazism? I think we have a fanatic here who claims to know about history but does not. Take it from me, I'm studying the subject.

A lot of people are dumb only because they aren't pushed to be smarter.

Ah, so are you disputing the fact that the USA and the UK both had support for eugenics, or the fact that the nazis did? Or are you under the impression that im implying that Britain and America both actually undertook nazi-esque race purification programmes and wiped out the genetically inferior? And please, a 12 year old could be "studying the subject", a little more elaboration, possibly on whether or not you are studying the whole of history or a specific segment.

back on the subject of Petpeeves, according to my account I have been on Neopets for 29 months.

I believe it's the new message boards that have created more problem than anything else.

The other boards I found, although primitive, had less arguments and rivaleries. I believe allowing the fonts and siggys have created the most fuel to the fire. Now because people are more concerned about how their text looks in comparisson with what the garbage their actually writing (ie. "BUMP" bugs the hell out of me).

I find that a lot of the rules also encourage people to be less friendly. When I first started, the boards were fun because people were into playing games (ie. Name that Song lyrics") and were incorporating trivial knowledge with neopets (giving prizes.. or sometimes it was for NO prizes but people still played anyways). So it was a learning and social environment for everyone. Now with "reportable" messages and a vast amount of rules (most of them good but turn sour when people report everything for no reason).

I love neopets. I will continue to love neopets, but since the "revamp" i haven't played it the way I had in years.

Ok that's my little rant. back to playing.

Yeah, I've noticed a definate lowering of the ol' intelligence bar on the Neoboards! I used to go to the Help Board before I found this place.. it wasn't half as bad as it is now. I swear, the begging isn't the worst of it. It's the flaming! If someone says just one thing "out of line", everyone starts whipping out the matches!
And do these people have their threads yanked? Nope! Personally, I think this is because the monitors can't understand half of what has been written, because I sure can't!

What really bugs me is the fact that these people are 13+ years old, and they can't write one sentence correctly. I'm 11 years old, and I always, no matter what, use proper grammer on the Internet, even on chatrooms.

I agree with that last statement wholeheartedly (sp?), raudf. Don't pick on those Neo-moniters, guys! They aren't literate in illiteracy!

This has become kind of a pet peeve of mine lately. Yes, we can all lose patience with scammers/spammers/beggers/completely inane questions, etc.

But just because you're not face to face with a person is no reason to be rude or mean just for the fun of it. It seems to have become almost the "thing" -- I've seen so many siggys lately with things like "I'm mean, get over it", "I sure am rude", etc. In my opinion, no matter what, there's never an excuse for flaming, especially if it's someone truly new who just doesn't know things. And that's happening more and more.

Yes, some of the newer people seem to have absolutely no netiquette, can't or won't spell, use chatspeak (which drives me insane), and beg and whine endlessly. I try to be polite, but if I feel my temper rising, I simply leave the board. Arguing over the internet is just pointless, plus I'm not risking my account over some silly argument.

I do keep my neomail as nf only, have requests/items/invitations blocked. That really helps with not getting beggers/scammers/just plain annoyance.

I know there's always been and will always be rude people on Neo as well as anywhere, including real life. But lately, the level of rudeness has just gone off the charts on the boards both on the part of new people and older members. I don't like it, but there's not much I can do about it.

And please, don't blame the "rich" people and say that they're the rude ones. If someone has alot of np, ub or rare items, a gallery, great bd lineup, whatever -- they've earned that and it is beyond rude for anyone to try to ask, beg or threaten with "hacking" for that person to give anyone else anything.

Well, it is not the age. I think it is where they come from. I always tried to understand because I know that there are a lot of people that came from countries when English is not their first language. In fact, I find it kind of rude when people laugh at others spellings and grammer when the other party is actually trying to put up proper sentences to make you understand them.

I must admit that my English is not good too. :(

Thu Jul 01, 2004 7:23 am

hmm...i understand what you mean abt players becoming ruder nowadays. more players seem to use "nXXb" too easily on others.

as for neomails, sometimes i don't answer certain kinds of neomail, depending on my mood. for example, i generally don't answer "how much do you want" neomails when i specifically stated to "neomail me your offer". secondly, i don't reply to neomails asking why after i rejected an offer, coz they generally lead to arguments.

There are more people. Therefore, there are more stupid people. A herd can only go as fast as its slowest member, thus many others are dragged down to that level. Thus, there is a higher percentage of idiots.

Thu Jul 01, 2004 8:46 am

lol Well, good I'm not the only one who has noticed. And I don't think it was all of the McDonalds things fault.Though I think it played a part in bringing in even more idiots.Ya and it's bad that people who are old enough to know how to write correct sentences don't.Personally I think the ones who are normally the rudest are the one's who are like 2 or so months old. That seems to be the ones I catch being rude the most. They're not new but they're not old.
