I really really hate ferrets.
Someone who WAS my friend (John) has a ferret and it keeps on chewing on me and scratching me.....
So I was walking along the couch with a ferret attatched to my sock.
I think I know why they are illegal in some places....
But congrats on getting one!

Out of curiousity, why do you think they're illegal?

Aww! Dawn, he's so cute. I'm glad you got one picked out. :)

What if someone adopts him before you can, though?

Tue Jun 14, 2005 11:54 pm

That would be rather unfortunate. :(

However, I suppose I could pick out another one... if it came to that...

No, that's not what I asked. You said you thought you knew why they were illegal. I was asking why you thought they were illegal.

They're concidered illegal by the game and wildlife commission in CA because they're concidered wild animals. I know there's more to it, but I'm not sure what else more there is. More information on the legalization of them can be found here: http://www.ferretnews.org/

And Dawn, I realize you think you don't NEED that book, but you have to remember, things you "Find" on the internet, aren't always completely true. Every single, and I mean every single, person I've ever talked to has reccomended that book to me. This includes breeders, shelter moms, 10 year veterans, ect ect. If you don't want to buy it, fine, but I reaaaaaally think you should. *shrugs*

But hey, don't take advice from a 3 year veteran.

Dawn, I don't think you should take being recommended Ferrets For Dummies as an insult. It's always useful to have a comprehensive reference book on your pet.

Not to mention it was written by experts in their field, ferrets. It's called Ferrets for Dummies because that's just the book series. Not because anyone thinks your dumb.

Oh....
FOR SAVAGELY ATTACKING ME!
The End.

No, they're not illegal for violence. They're illegal because some people (for reasons I'm not sure of in California) consider them to be wild animals and that the ferrets will hunt and ruin the entire ecosystem, etc. *eyeroll* In Hawaii, their ecosystem is screwed up enough as it is, and I can see why they wouldn't want to take the chance of ferrets getting loose and breeding like rabbits. But in California, it really wouldn't be much of an issue. Besides, the domesticated ferret could only survive on its own for around a week in the wild- hardly enough time to have a litter of kits.

Name it Ron.

Then get a rubber ferret and bounce it. Then write 'Draco Malfoy, the Amazing Bouncing Ferret' on it with a sharpie.

Then give Draco Malfoy to your ferret to chew up.

I've always thought Ron should be the one to get back at that little slimeball anyway, not Harry. Harry gets Voldemort. (Of course, I also think Neville should kill Bellatrix, not Harry. After all, it's because of her that Neville lost his parents.)

Obviously, choosing to hate an entire species based on one specimen is now a-okay.

As for 'savagely attacking [you]', here's what you said earlier:

I really don't see anything about it attacking you.

And if it did, I doubt it did it just for the heck of it. It probably felt threatened by you. If someone does something that you feel is rude or cruel, don't you become frustrated or angry? Same case with the ferret, probably.

I'm sorry if I sound rude, but I really dislike it when people start going on about how such-and-such (races of humans, animals, heck, food, even) is horrible, just because they had a negative experience with one. :)

California also has quite the unique ecosystem. I can also see why ferrets may not be so welcome there.
