Never read any Chronicles of Narina books before, but the movie sounds cool.

(and if memory serves, Proffessor Tolkien wrote the lord of the rings prior to meeting C.S.Lewis, making the chronicles younger. still both master pieces mind you)

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was released in 1950, and Fellowship of the Ring in...looks it up...1954. The Hobbit was written way before though in the 1930s..ish. But really I too don't understand the comparison of those two books, the Chronicles of Narnia are nothing like the LOTR books

I never saw the cartoon but I did see the BBCs versions of that book, Prince Caspian, The Silver Chair and the Dawn Treader. Class stuff

That's the one. it was horrible. I was only little when I saw it- though I saw it again a few months ago and still found it discomforting.

Yes, and publishing dates (those I quoted) tend to signify when people actually read the books. Unless you mean that Lewis read Tolkiens work before it was published? That's the only way I guess the person would be correct in saying that Lewis ripped off Tolkien

I don't quite follow what you mean - "but to say they are openly ripped off" is what? Right, wrong? I'm a bit confused as to what you're trying to say.

They're both in fantasy worlds but I think that's the only similarity and that makes them "similar" with hundreds of books. As far as I can see they're completely different styles, stories and books. I really don't see the similarity or possibility of either ripping off the other at all but I guess that is slightly subjective. All fantasy books are compared to Tolkien whether they like it or not which is rather a shame I think.

Same goes for the films, though I expect to be far more impressed by this version than by the old bbc version or cartoon especially from what I saw from the trailer. I wonder if they are going to tackle any of the other books.

They were really good friends with SLIGHTLY similar ideas. But they actually talked a lot when they were writing the books and they gave each ideas and told each other if they thought something was stupid. It's easy to see why the books are kinda similar.

Anyway, I'm totally excited about the movie. The Chronicles of Narnia is my favorite book series. Actually, it's the only book series I like. No I don't read Harry Potter *gasp* I'm sure Jim is excited about the movie too. The only thing that made me sad to hear was that they were trying to take the Christian elements out of the movie. Well, if I go any further, I'll get in trouble so I'll just shut up now.

Heh, see, I remember that I loved the books when I was eight or so...then I found out they were allegories, and was totally crushed.

Not sure if I'm going to see the movie; maybe if someone invites me. I mean, I'm not dying to see it, but it does look like it would be interesting.

If they destroy it (which movies love doing) I will just.....explode . I love the books, and I have a feeling about how this entire movie will be layed out...won't say much now . But it looks alright, and I will most definitely see it!
