Well, you have to watch out for the stupid trolling ****s who think they're hilarious with their "reported" sigs. They do their html such that their message is always "REPORTED!" and their actual message is where their sig would normally be. I honestly think anyone doing that should receive a major warning for being a massive troll. Better yet, just IP ban them from the site.

Thats what happened to me a few days ago, I went to a board and there was this person with the text "Reported New Member" but actually the real writing was in the siggy, in very light font so I couldn't read it. And then I idioticaly started saying who s/he was reporting and s/he said "OMG Don't you have eyes? Read my siggy! You are a New Member!"

Actually, I've seen a few people get warnings and their siggys cleared for having that "Reported" stuff at the top of their siggy.

Now the boards can be helpful and useful, I've learned alot, gotten good information I wouldn't have known otherwise (like the important stuff that never gets in the News ... duping, the security horror last April, etc.). But boards that are arguments, flaming, name calling, etc.? I just walk away. I learned to do that awhile ago. And if it's just too much I'll either go play a game or just turn the computer off.

Fighting on-line is an exercise in futility. And it's certainly not worth my account to argue with someone who's not going to listen anyway.

I often report on the HC simply due to the scammers and spammers (most often spammers) but I try to be decent about it, and I certainly don't see myself as "report-happy"...in fact, I hate to do it, but I feel that if somebody's doing something REALLY against the rules, then I'd rather not see them in the game ... and I never report until after I've informed them that they're doing something against the rules (and I try to do it politely) and see if they know that or not. You'd be surprised (or you may not be, lol) at the number of people who really don't care whether or not they break rules.
I don't see why there's any reason to be mean, and try my darndest not to be :)

wow, I'm sick right now... did any of that make any sense?

I would never report for spamming since I don't think someone should get frozen over something as silly as that. Infact in my whole 12 months of playing Neo I've probably only reported 3 at the most. Today for instance I had to report someone for advertsing a website in which you had to give it your password and you would supposuvly (sp?) get 1,000,000, and I reported someone a few weeks ago for having porn on their lookup, or something like that....

I very, very rarely report anyone. It's ridiculous to freeze someone for "spamming" the Neoboards, and it would be even more ludicrous if I contributed to that freezing. In 4 years on Neopets, I think I've reported two people - one for porn on his petpage, and one for a fake login page link. I wish TNT would remove the "Report This Message" function on the Neoboards. If someone has truly violated the rules, such as scamming, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that you can report them from the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of every page.

i think neopets is getting more and more unrelenting of even slightest touching of the rules. i mean come on. you can argue!? what is that all about? it's not people flame each other. but come seriously. if you can get frozen for arguing, then that is just wrong. it's everyone is trying to hide from the report happy New Member.

If they're bound and determined to leave that "report this message" thing, then there should be some more limitations on reporting. Like, once you report someone, you can't report anyone for another ten minutes on that account. At the very least it'd slow down the reports, because if you decided to go report-crazy then you'd have to log onto a different account after every reporting.

I've got to agree with you, just recently, for some bizarre reason, I hopped into avatar chat, and I saw:

Quote:
Current Topic: POST THIS MESSAGE INTO TEN DIFFERENT MESSAGE BOARDS YOU'LL GET 1MILL AND ALL THE

I peeked in, and the new member had only been on a month. When someone told them it didn't work, and they said they wouldn't do it again, they had already been reported twice.

And we wonder why the things we report don't produce any actions.
