I want to get it done too. My eyesight is as bad as yours, Cyanna, though I'm using ultrathin lenses so my glasses don't look that dorky.

So far, I have heard rave reviews about lasik surgery. The price is a bomb though, especially if you want to get a good surgeon to do it.

My parents want me to get it done, but I'm fine with my glasses.
I don't want to risk going blind in the future.
My glasses are like -4, or somewhere around that, but my eyesight is slightly worse than that. It stopped dropping though, so if I'm lucky it'll stay where it's at now.

It hurts. You spend a few days afterwards in a darkened room in a fair bit of pain.

And yeah, what people have said- you'll probably be going from terrible eyesight to not-as-terrible eyesight.

My friend's dad does laser eye surgery for a living, so I tend to be biased that it's a good thing...

Eighteen years is still not that long, if you think of all the technologies that have been around for longer.

Except 18 years is plenty of enough time to have results of what happens UP TO 18 years after surgery. And, so far, the results have been good.


Cyanna, I only have -5 and -5.5 respectively (although, dropping .5 it seems every year) but I've discussed it with my optometrist, he said, at 20, I was still too young for it and didn't reccomend it until later, (23-25) what did yours say?

i have just about the worse eye-sight possible, not near, not far sighted.
i just cant see at-all without my glasses.
but the thought of somone shooting a laser into my eye isnt a big dream, even before i heard of the failiure rate and the cost.

suck it up, waer glasses, and hit anyone who mocks you.

my ex-boss had it done. he went in on the friday afternoon and was back at work on the monday - we didnt even know until he told us. but his eyesight wasnt *that* bad, he was just vain enough and rich enough to get it done to avoid wearing glasses. But he didnt have any side effects.

Nothing as of yet since I haven't spoken with him. The only person I've talked to so far is my mom. She wants to see if the insurance will cover it first.

hate to make anyone who needs glasses, lenses or so on feel bad but I've perfect eyesight. I tried on my boyfriends glasses once and everything just seemed...curvy. Doesn't it feel weird looking like that all the time?

My stepdad had it done with part of his makeover. I never asked him what the experience was like, though he was pretty blind too. When he didn't wear his glasses he was always squinting really bad at every thing and my mom would always have to bug him to wear them.

Yeah, I got used to my unibrow too . At first it's strange when you move, it seems like things sort of move with you. That's how I remember it being anyhow when I first got glasses. You get used to wearing them and if they are light enough you can even forget they are on sometimes

My mum's had laser eye surgery and her eyesight is fine now ^.^ Though she did tell me that every time they cut your eye open, it weakens your eye or something o.O So you have to be careful not to smash your eyes against anything xD Or, if you have the eye surgery multiple times because your sight drops again and again, your eye might just shatter. *shrug*
