They were actually talking about making it two movies at one time.

Yes, they left Dobby out (which is sad), but I don't see how Dobby was integral to the plot in any way. The maze was a little messed up, but it didn't change too much. My only real issue with this movie was Dumbledore. What the heck!? I don't know if it's the director's fault or Michael Gambon's but Dumbledore is supposed to be calm, collected, and have a grand presence. None of that was in the movie. I terribly miss Sir Richard Harris.
Oh and the last five minutes of the movie. It was wrapped up poorly. Big dramatic scene where Harry watches his peer die and he is almost killed and bam, la-di-da-di-da, we're going home, writing letters, etc etc etc. It was too rushed. However, the movie was getting rather long by that point.
But overall, I really liked it. One of my friends pointed out to me that, out of the four films, it's the one that makes the most sense, as movie (not just a movie that came from a book).

Maybe I'm not remembering things correctly, but wasn't the book sort of the same way? A bit of a rushed ending? Which was pointed out again in the beginning of book because people sort of 'forgot' or tuned out from what had happened just before they left for the summer break. But then again, it's been quite awhile since I last read GoF or OotP, so I could be completely off.

I was disappointed on how much they missed:
Rita Skeeter being a bug
And Maurauders map
And them meeting Sirius, actually, no Hogsmede at all.
And getting rid of house elves, therefore, SPEW
And the Quidditch world cup (you were kinda like, huh? Really odd)
And Ludo Bagman
And the maze challanges
And every class other than one (only in Moody's class)

It was quite good as a film, which is all you can really ask. But I saw it with my friend Kim, who hadn't read it, and she got confused in parts because some things were left unexplained.
I know what you mean about Dumbledore, Spira, he was getting fair stressed :/

Actually, I don't know. I don't remember the end of the fourth book really well and I don't have a copy, sadly. However, by the beginning of the fifth book, the entire situation was brushed off as nothing anyway.

That scene is in my top five-comebacks of all time.
Seeing how many of those i have seen, thats quite the feat.
Inconsistancies aside, there wasnt an army of the dead that dissapeared moments before they could be really useful, so im good.

Okay, two things that REALLY stood out to me during the movie: Snape and Dumbledore.
SNAPE HAD PRACTICALLY NO LINES! BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER. Snape is mah hero. And I am a firm believer that he is good, for those of you who want to know. That death was PLANNED. Harumph.
DUMBLEDORE SUCKS. Get out, Gambon; I say bring on McKellen! Honestly, that scene where Dumbles shakes Harry? SO OUT OF CHARACTER. I was nearly barfing during that part. I read an interview with Gambon. He hasn't read the books. At all. He doesn't think it matters! He said that he played Dumbledore (DUMBLEDORE! The most beloved character of ALL TIME!
) by just being himself and acting how a normal adult would act during such times. DUMBLEDORE IS NOT A NORMAL ADULT. He is supposed to be calm at all times!

Now, as for the good things.
I went to see the movie at midnight. We got there an hour early. We were searching for ten minutes to find seats, the theater was so full!
Awesome audience. It was so much fun to see it with people who appreciate HP as much as the true HP fanatic that is myself. Every five minutes someone would scream out how many minutes were left till midnight and then the whole theater would burst into cheers. HUGE applause at the infamous ferret scene and at the (AMAZING) graveyard scene there was dead quiet.
The bathroom scene was fantastic, with Myrtle cozying up to Harry. Brilliant.
Also the best line of the movie: "Oh my god! I killed Harry Potter!"
I how much we saw of Neville. Finally we see how great he is going to be in OotP.
I'm still not too sure about Voldemort. That scene where he stepped on dead Cedric was so unspeakably evil, I just got chills. And then he was touching Harry's scar and it was just... wow. I always imagined him as more quiet and cold, but Ralph Fiennes acted his Voldemort brilliantly. Suitably chilling.
Of course, I was bawling at the emotional goodbye between Cedric and his father, knowing what was to come. Stopped during the Voldie scene because I was too freaked out to cry. Started again when Harry was crying over Cedric's body. Brilliant piece of acting there. Loved it.
I'm going to see it again tomorrow at 10:30 AM, but not in IMAX because this whole weekend was sold out. I'll see it in IMAX for the third time Thanksgiving weekend.

I really liked this edition of Harry Potter. I agree with everyone on Dumbledore shaking Harry, that is out of character by A TON. I was very angry at that part.
Another fact was Harry did make me mad, but it was in both the book and the movie, but bleh.
But I didn't mind any scene, I mean, sure, they cut out the whole House Elf plot line (No sign of any anywhere) and I'm sure they accused Winky for conjuring the Dark Mark correct? Not Harry.
Good movie, but I guess I wasn't sad because I had to pee so badly at the ending.

See, I thought of that in advance. I made sure to only get a bottle of water so I could sip from it every time my mouth went dry when Alan Rickman or Jason Isaacs was on the screen.

its too bad they left out the SPEW thing.... because they probably wont include it in any other movies then... because its CREATED in this book, and thus will probably be let out later.
One thing i thought was.... they obviously thought about leaving things out of this movie for obvious reasons... but did they think about future movies? The Bug form of Rita Skeeter comes back... Winky certainly comes back... and SPEW is repeatably in the other books... and other things as well....
and then... I also realised how some of these changes will lead up to future movies.... and may help. People will look back at Harry Potter movies, and would like a consistant plot... and if youve read future books, you know that Neville DOES become a much bigger character than portrayed in these movies... and is supposed to be a better friend to Harry... because... hes in the little clan of Harrys that breaks into the Ministry of Magic... and in the books, JK Rowling does make the mistake of jumping their friendship really fast..... Neville suddenly becomes important because he needs to be. This movie helps promote Neville a little more, which will help moviegoers understand him more.... they just need to make sure they stick him in there plenty for the next movie.

Heh, Snape was sort of turned into a comedy character.
Which I sort of resent because it meant he had not very many lines, but I can't watch Alan Rickman (god bless him) as Snape without laughing anyway, he's just so pantomime.

Right, about Rita being a bug... How on earth are they going to show that next year? Are they just going to not have Rita in the next movie at all? And maybe not put in the article that Hermione got Rita to write? Maybe they'll just have the article 'show up' in the Quibbler?

There are ways to work her into the plot. Like say the constant rumours about the powerstruggle going on at Hogwarts.
I agree with Spira on when it comes to Dumbledore. Seeing him sitting there after Harry went into the Penseive totally broke character for me.

But the whole reason Rita wrote that article for Hermione was because Hermione could hold the Rita-being-a-bug over Rita's head. Without that reason, why would Rita write that story?
