There's actually a box you need to uncheck when you update shockwave, it is an option to download it or not, you musta been like me (and 98% of the population :P) and just kept clicking continue without reading ;)

You IP address automatically tells them which area you're in I believe, no big deal, they know it as soon as you're on the site anyway :)

I've seen a couple of people saying things like "scam city" (in a previous thread) and "I wouldnt want to give that kind of information out" but as far a I saw when I went to the Portal (and used it for a day or two before they closed it off) they don't actually ask you for any personal information other than what you choose to give them when you sign up for the site in the first place.

And the person that said once about it inviting scammers (or words to that effect) if you're the only person that can see all your information, how can it possibly entice people to scam you more than they do/can now?

There was only a few things I didn't like about the Portal - firstly it was SO U.S. biased, all the non-neo features it had were basically useless if you didn't live in the U.S. I actually wasn't that fond of the non-neo features at all actually :P

But I also didn't like the buddy list, showing if your neofriends were on or offline. If I'm online, and don't feel like talking to other people, I don't want them knowing I'm online, and choosing not to talk, and maybe being insulted by that :/ I like my anonymity a lot ;)

I'm one of the 2% :P
I don't really like toolbars, so it wouldn't be very useful. And for the portal, I hope we can customise it, then it'll be like what Xalaxracer said-a 'my yahoo!' or 'my AOL' thingy.

The Neopets Portal is currently closed.
Our alpha testers are hard at work helping us to make the portal into something great!

We hope to bring the portal to you very soon.

If you are a tester and are seeing this message, that means you are probably not logged in!

I AM an alpha tester and I AM logged in. I could access it an hour ago. What happened? Has it gone down with everything else? I think Neo is going through a crisis of some kind - changing servers, updating servers, deleting obsolete information, or something else just as odd.
I liked the Portal. It holds quite a lot of useful info all on one page. I hope it's back soon.
The toolbar is good too. Saves me having to keep Neopets favourites - it has them already stored. It has a cool Popup blocker too. Unfortunately it doesn't catch everything, but it does get most things.

I had to tell them where I was, so that I could get personalised weather information. It then stores it so it shows up everytime you visit.

The weather is now international, so I know it's gonna rain everyday in my city o_O. They've improves quite a lot of stuff over the last month or so.

You can choose to be 'hidden' from your neofriends. I like that feature. If you don't have the portal, you can't. I'm sure they're hoping everyone will want to use it.

Oh I'm so glad of these two things! Especially the neofriends thing :) When I actually used it, I sent in feedback addressing those two things (and a couple others I cant remember) but definitely the buddies thing was one of them. I go to extremes when I want to be "alone" on the net ;)

Thanks for letting me know! :D
