I swear there was a thread here about it but I can't find it.

Does anyone else like this show? I haven't seen the British one but we have the BBC channel on broadband so it might be on it. I don't know how they compare, but the American one is hilarious :D. Steve Carell cracks me up.

I've never seen the original show either, but I think the US one is hilarious.
That guy just does awkward moments SO well... and that guy with the glasses... good lord he's such a butthead but that's what's so great about him :P lol

I've never seen the USA version but The Office British version is one of my all-time favourite series, it is just so funny! :D I would recommend you watch it if you can get hold of it, and enjoy that sort of humour.

I would love to see the British version since they have a different definition of humour than Americans, but I'm afraid that it would be next to impossible for anyone to be more awkwardly hilarious that Steve Carell. You know, he banned his father from watching the show because he didn't want his father to see him acting like such an idiot.

Ah, but you've never seen "David Brent" or Ricky Gervais. I've seen both and in comparision, the American version is a pile of poop. You can't beat good ol' British humour.

The Original The Office blows the US version out of the water. It's absolutely fantastic- often painful in the style of Alan Partridge- but fantastic.

If you have the money, get the BBC DVDs of the original "The Office," including the final bonus ending DVD. Sooo worth it :)

They just need to hurry up and release Green Wing DVDs now so I can finally be happy.

Am i the only person who didn't find the office funny?
Embaressing can be funny.
But The Office transcends such awkwardness we mere mortals are capeable of.

I agree with Twinkle, Igg, and Chanel. The British version is so much better. Nothing will ever beat David Brent. And Gareth Keenan. And TIM FREAKING CANTERBURY (not that I much care for Martin Freeman or anything.. haha.. :P). Oh my. I feel like watching the DVDs now. It's a beautiful show. And lots of fun to watch with others who have a sick or otherwise twisted sense of humor.. that's how I was introduced to it, and watching the whole Tim-birthday episode is among my top embarrassing but so-amazingly-hilarious moments in my entire life.

Is it safe to agree that Americans would tend to like the American rip-off while non-Americans would tend to like the original version? I make this excuse for myself since I am now sorta on the hunt to find the British version. The best lead I got was that BBC America carries it. I'll keep up the hunt. Bellum omnium contraomnes!

Not true. Really, really, trust me.

My dad finds it often too painful to laugh at, as he does with Partridge.

One of my favourite bits is when they're talking about the differences between pixies and elves and such..

Sometimes it can be excrutiating to watch David Brent, but incredibly funny. If you're in the US you can buy the complete British series 1 & 2 plus the special as a box set from amazon.com:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002W4P98/qid=1136540320/sr=8-2/ref=pd_bbs_2/103-3438561-7004618?n=507846&s=dvd&v=glance

I'm going to try and get to see the US version now, I'd like to compare them.

:)

I'm American.. but I'm an American who enjoys things that come from the U.K. a ridiculous amount.

Hahaha, I love that part with the pixies and elves! But I think my favorite is David Brent's song in the Training Day episode. Just the look on Gareth's face as he sings back-up.. beautiful. :P

It depends on the series. Like Coupling for example. The NBC American version of Coupling, now that was a disaster. Thank god the people upstairs yanked that off the station as soon as they could. (The only good thing about the American remake was the remix of the intro song)

Now take All in the Family, which was also a American translation of the British comedy. Now there they actually did a good job, and Archie Bunker and Edith have arguably surpassed the original British characters.
