Ugh, thanks for that info, everyconfused.
I'm pretty sure we're running the free version of Zone Alarm, so I don't know what we can do about it

Hmm, I'm not sure Fizzy. I know from reading that some people have had a very difficult time trying to uninstall everything so they can install ZA 6.
I just got the joy of joy news that my computer more than likely needs reformatting. I have SO much to back up onto discs it's not even funny. The only upside is hopefully I can get the roadrunner EZ Armor suite installed, have it run properly and get a refund for unused time on the ZA firewall.
Did you look here?

Thanks for those links! I found the support page, but couldn't figure out where to go from there. I checked the forums now, and got some info on how to fix my problem (ie, completely uninstalling, deleting the hidden files, and reinstalling >_>). So hopefully, it will work *crossed fingers*

Um, I have a rather weird problem with my internet.
I use a dialup connection, and after being connected to the internet for a while (say, 30 mins, though I'm not sure) I begin to have issues loading webpages. When I click on a link, my browser seems to send a request... and then it stops and says the webpage is "Done", when it certainly isn't. So webpages aren't loading completely, and often not at all. Hitting refresh seems to resend the request, which works eventually though not usually straight away (so I'm spending a lot of time hitting refresh at the moment).
I use Firefox as a browser, but all internet-related things on my computer seem to be effected by this. The same problem occurs in IE, Thunderbird and my FTP program. I haven't touched any network settings recently, or installed any new drivers...
It's really annoying!

So it would be great if anyone has any ideas what could be going on, or has experienced something similar...

mazil, have you cleaned out your cache, history, etc.? Sometimes it gets too full and that can either slow you down or stop you in your tracks.
Im having a problem, and I'm ready to throw my computer out the window (and it's in a big case!). OK, it's been acting funky. Today the tech who originally built the computer came over. I had a new PSU put in (old one dying) - thermaltake dual fan 420w atx. I also had my puter reformatted ... Win XP sp2 (now removed - messed too many things up). D/L FF, got flash and shockwave for that. Got flash and shockwave for IE.
I'm not sure if when the old PSU started going, it damaged something or I just need an upgrade or what. Some games, and some animation (like animated backgrounds, things like that) just aren't "right". Some of my games are running kind of spastic, not smooth. Like Igloo game - when the things fall, they start to fall, then a tiniest pause, fall, pause ... weird to try to explain. Whack-a-staff, I don't seem to be able to control the mouse to hit when I get to like, level 6 and up. Animated pages make my mouse move very strangely - jerky, slow and hard to control.
Could it just be I need new ram sticks? (have 2 512, but they're not the same manufacturer if that makes any difference), and I know my video/graphics card isn't super up to date, I can't update the driver - the only update is a beta which I never put on my computer. Could it be the card? Any advice on a small upgrade from that one? I can't afford alot right now. I can't really afford new ram, but if that's the problem, it's the easiest fix.
Here's basically my computer:
AMD Athlon 1800+, 1.54 ghz w/VIA chipset, 1 gig ram, 80 g HD (about 90% free), hercules 4500 3D prophet, realtek family friendly nic, cable internet, zonealarmpro firewall, avast! a/v, ad-aware, spybot, spywareblaster, CCleaner, HijackThis, PSP7, Yahoo messenger. That's all that's on the computer right now. I only ask because I've tried unsuccessfully before to put this on my computer and it wouldn't work. Could it be the SP2? All current critical updates were done prior to installing the SP2 and again after uninstalling SP2.
Also, does anyone know of a webcam that will work with VIA chipsets? Logitech apparently won't - I just got one last night, the communicator, and it won't work. The tech couldn't get it to work for more than 2 minutes before it just went dark (there was a blue lcd light for the 2 minutes or so) and now? No joy. This is apparently a known issue by Logitech. Why they can't or won't make a cam that works with a highly popular chipset is beyond me. But then, I'm no techie!
Help?

on the front of every cd drive made in there is a very tiny hole in the front that is the size of a paper clip. Turn off the PC, use a paper clip to press into that tiny hole- and Voila, instant manual eject of the tray. Pull it open and remove the cd, close the tray and turn the PC back on

Hey guys, long time no see, but I'm having a serious computer problem. Right now I'm on my mom's computer, but mine is acting crazy. Whenever I go online, into Media Center, anything with a side scroll bar, it scrolls up and down super fast without me prompting it to do so. Any ideas? Thanks!!

Did you try using a different mouse or reinstalling media center all together?

It does it in every thing that has a scroll bar, if an active window has a side scroll bar, it goes crazy. It's only been doing it today. I don't think it has anything to do with the mouse because the mouse is pretty new, as is the computer.

I'll ask my mom, I'd need the password to get it back on the Bluetooth network. Are there any bugs going around that could cause this? It seems to be something wrong with the actual computer than the mouse.

Some of the Flash games on Neopets aren't loading for me. win 2000, IE 6. Dial-up currently running at 49 kbps. What happens is that I click on the Play button, the window comes up, the timer begins and stops. For example, Jolly Juggler stopped at 81% and the rate went from 4 to 0.6. Sometimes erasing the file from cache helps but this time it is not. Is there a solution for this? If anyone has any questions let me know.

Sape, first make sure you have the latest versions of flash and shockwave. Go here for a test to see if they're both installed and you can look to see what versions you're using -
http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/welcome/
Next, go to Internet Options, General - clear cookies, temporary internet cache including offline and history. Also if your os has it, go to Programs, Accessories, System Tools - disk cleanup. And check to see if you need to defrag. You might also want to check how much available space you have.
Lastly, I was on dial-up until this past August. There were a few games that just would not load on dial-up ... period. The slorg game, the castle battle game and a few others. They'd either sit there with a black blank screen or try to start loading, but ended up getting stuck at a certain point.
Good luck!
