I made Tim promise not to play his specter deck against me. :P He once made me an awesome Serra Angel/Sengir Vampire deck. That was a fun one to play. :) We have ten of the first books (we're missing like two), but we hadn't really gotten into any of the sagas. I wanted to but the $$ wasn't available. lol We have so many binders of cards, though. Maybe we have twelve binders between us and then several boxes of cards besides that, not counting decks? *ponders* I once tried to catalog them all in a spreadsheet, but as I was halfway through Tim's cards, someone else used the computer and it crashed losing all that work. :( I haven't started again since. lol We also have two black Nightmare t-shirts from the M:tG promotion a couple years back when Portal came out. You gave them a name and address and they sent you a kit to "pass on the message and teach others". The t-shirts are quite cool. :)

Yes, sir. ^.^ They're really neat. They have "Magic: the Gathering" printed over the left chest and then a big picture of a flaming Nightmare on the back. :)

Nightmare is pretty good, but since it used to be a staple for my friend's deck, he no longer really gets to use it because I destroy it every time her brings it out. He's made up for it with other things now. x_x

With that said though, Ancient Ooze > Nightmare.

Ancient Ooze's power and toughness are equal to the converted mana cost of all permanents you control. (meaning it can't go lower than it's own converted mana cost which is 7 I think, I'd have to check).

I read it wrong actually (I was doing it from memory). It's actually of all OTHER CREATURES you control. :P (it doesn't include itself. Not as good as I was thinking, but still not half bad.)

No.
Horrible infact.
No trample means it get chump blocked to infinity.
Sure, you can give it trample, but who cares when you could just take a Plated slagwurm in the first place
(8/8, spells and abilities opponents control cannot target it, trample for 6mana)

Or Darksteel collosuss.
11/11
Trample
Indestructable (destroy effects and lethal damage do didly sqaut)
if it does go to the graveyard, it gets shuffled back into the library.

11 Colourless.

Which is easily done with such things as the urza lands, and cloupost.

And thats a block that wasnt about the big mean creatures.

Ancient ooze - Awful.

Plated Slagwurm is great but Darksteel Colossus is severely overrated. So much, in fact, that I've never even been successfully attacked by one. There are many ways to get around the indestructible, the shuffling ability, and even the flying (and attack and toughness)

DC can easily be taken out by variety of cards (mostly white/blue). Enchantments causing it to lose it's abilties, turning it into a 1/1 token creature until end of turn and then killing it. A simple pacifism/arrest/cage of hands would make it a useless card on the field until destroyed (the enchantments that is). Even removing it from the game would take it out. Heck, anyone with a decent strategy for their deck can get around a DC pretty easily.

DC is used so often that most people have ways to get rid of them in their deck somewhere. Plated Slagwurm has more going for it (save the flying, which it can gain through other methods, though not necessarily needed) and if equipped with Shield of Kaldra, is pretty much better than DC.

Darksteel Colossus is great against new players, not against players that know what they're doing (or are lucky). Plated Slagwurm, however, is a force to be reckoned with if used correctly.

Yes.
Darksteel collossi are often sent out with no back up by experienced players arent there.

There are far more ways to prevent the Assaults upon the poor collossi than there are ways to stop it, Lightning greaves is a favourite.

Shield of Kaldra heh... So somone actually uses that in a competative deck then?

I've been playing Magic competitively for about a year. I've been playing UW Fish, but since the metagame in New England changed so much, going from massive amounts of Mana Drain-based decks to Stax and Fish, I decided on running Gifts Ungiven with Time Vault/Flame Fusillade combo.

That can be said about probably any strong creature.

For every way there is to keep it from being destroyed, there is also a way around it.

Probably not, it was an example for anything that could give a creature indestructibilty or something equal to it. I'm sure there are better ways to go about doing that.

Hell, General's Kabuto is better, though that's rarely used as well.

Heh, competitive decks do not equal the best. Someone who doesn't play for competition can easily make a better deck than someone who does. It depends on who is making it, not if they're playing competitively (as competitive decks around here are starting to look the same again. What ever happened to variety?)

I'm going to post a few of my favorite flavor texts, for very little reason. (No reason looks like spam.)

"Allow me a moment to catch your breath."

Its diet includes fruits, vegetables, small woodland animals, large woodland animals, woodlands, fruit farmers, and small cities.

Each myr was designed to fill a specific role. This one, for example, was designed to stomp on other myr.

Bitten by radioactive beebles in a freak algebra accident, young Ricky Robertson discovered he'd gained the ability to harness the awesome power of fractions!

Ever the warrior, Glissa responded with a "wedgie from beyond Uranus."

"Word to me."

Envying the intelligence of goblins is a bad place to be.

This is not a subliminal message.

"Selecting the proper beeble is the key to a good sauté. The pinker the fur and the heartier the yelp, the more succulent the beeble will be when you pop it in your mouth."

Having played against a county champion (one of my best friends actually) I can say this; Minus a bad draw, it is unbeatable.
Because with a bad draw, even my abmysmal decks can beat them.

I know a good card when i see it, i ussually dont care as anything with Dragon or Elemental in its sub type is enough to sell me, but i know what they are.
And Ancient Ooze is not one of them.

Sideboard:
2 Tormod's Crypt
3 Blood Moon
2 Lava Dart
1 Pyroblast
3 Rack And Ruin
2 Red Elemental Blast
2 Pyroclasm

I'll have to say that Control Slaver is one of the best decks ever made and still a strong archtype in Vintage today. It's very versatile. It has ways of dealing with everything, whether it's against a control mirror, Stax, and even aggro.

Mindslaver screws up the opponent really bad and will put them in an unwinnable position. Triskelion along with Goblin Welders deal with aggro very well. Pentavus with Goblin Welders and Mindslaver on the board will put the opponent in an infinite slaver lock. Pentavus can also be replaced with Darksteel Colossus for a faster win.

Snow-Covered Basic Lands

3 Annul
1 Hurkyl's Recall
2 Pyroblast
1 Rack And Ruin
2 Red Elemental Blast
1 Deep Analysis
1 Echoing Ruin
1 Flame Fusillade
1 Pyroclasm

A Gifts deck, however, performs faster and much better than Control Slaver right now because of the metagame. It has the ability to win very fast, but it's very vulnerable to aggro. Even Food Chain Goblins can beat this, however a good player piloting this deck will know to win fast, whether it's racing with Darksteel Colossus, Time Vault Flame Fusillade combo, or storm combo your way with Burning Wish to Tendrills.
