Same. I hate it. I think it's creepy.

They're knickers!

I voted for the last option.

I don't say the word though; it reminds me of something I always have to buy

I don't mind the word. It's a word or crying out loud, and, unlike the example Setekh was thinking of giving, it's not offensive to anyone.

Then again, I don't really say it. Very rarely do I have to make mention of female underwear, anyway. ._. It also reminds me of something a pervert or someone of that blood would say, don't know why exactly. >_>

I am not bothered by the word panties and it is really to up the girls on what they want to call their underwear.

A Chinese proverb that best explains my opinion is...

Some prefer carrot while others like cabbage.

Which means that people's preferences differ.

It's not a matter of being rational about it, and I know there's no reason a word should bother me. But something about the word "panties" just makes my skin feel like there are creepy-crawlies all over it. It's just...ugh. You know?

Interesting results so far.

Christopher wrote:I dunno. Panties are generally lacy things that cause paradoxes in the way that the less of them there is, the more expensive they are, yet selling nothing does not seem to provide unlimited wealth. Oh well. Otherwise it's just underwear.

I have to agree with you on that point Christopher. In my mind, "panties" are the expensive stuff that you only wear on special occasions and "underwear" is what you wear to work every day. The word itself isn't really an issue, but I'll say just about anything.

It doesn't bother me, but I can see how it bothers some people. I think "panties" just has some sleazy connotation to it. Like some guy stealing a girl's panties and doing weird things. :X
It also reminds me of that 70s show, where Donna keeps finding them all over and Eric throws them up in the air, yelling, "Panties! Glorious Panties!"

Wow, this is a random topic.
I don't mind the word Panties. It's a funny word.

PANTIES!

i call them pants, because i'm not strange and call trousers pants :P

i'm really stubborn about things like that, i would be terrible if i worked in a clothes shop, as i would confuse people all the time. i'm bad enough in a bar
customer:"i'd like *insert beer name here* please"
me:"would you like a pint or a half?"
customer: "oh, um, a middie?"
me: "ok, a half"

Hate them, mainly because they just sound weird. Especially when said by guys.

Although the word is needed in some cases, because lets face it, 'edible briefs' just doesn't have that same 'pizzaz' to it.

Not a fan of the word panties, I say underwear but if other people say panties it doesn't matter.

There was a momentary pause when my mom told me my cousin asked her to make him knickers. That is, golfing knickers.

Could be a regional thing, cause I've noticed that all the girls around here hate that word with a passion. I don't really care much, but it is one of those words that just sounds unpleasant to me for reasons I can't really articulate.

*shrugs* I generally say 'undies' when I find the need to discuss underwear.

You don't really need special knickers for golfing. It's not like cycling where there's a legitimate risk of tissue damage.
