And I'm so depressed now because I played tag when I was six.

Yeah, that's how things work.

I can't see the link because it comes up blank, but I've heard about it on the news. I think it's ridiculous. How are all the coddled kids going to deal when they get to the real world? And tag of all things? If you want to ban something, pick dodgeball. :P That game hurt. lol

I can say because of this, my girls and I have played a lot more tag recently. lol :)

I do think it's stupid to ban tag, but it's not untrue that tag can lower self-esteem. I'm the slowest runner I know (with the least stamina), so I always ended up as it within thirty seconds, and I never managed to tag anyone. And I would run around, and see all the other kids so far away, and then I couldn't breathe, and they were still running...and I felt angry, hurt, and really bad about myself. (Needless to say, I hated the game with a passion, and I didn't play that often, but that's what happened when I did. In fact, sometimes the kids would just run away from me and start doing something else. I've never been very popular.)

What? They do that in real life. XD

I could understand that some kids could be hurt by this game, but.. enough to ban the whole game period? Everything can be bothersome to an extent. o_o If you were to get rid of everything that upset somebody, there would be... nothing. o_O

I say we ban minor league baseball because little Timmy can't hit the ball as hard and he's always struck out.
I also say that we should ban minor league hockey because too many kids end up with pucks in their face.
Soccer should be canned too because my neighbours kid isn't good in goal and he always lets too many balls in.
And don't even get me STARTED on football...

... some sports are just plain wrong.

No one said you had to play it. You could sit out. It sounds like something that came out of South Park (like Yukio said) or MAD magazine. Self-esteem issues, yeah right. And I got depression from losing a Pile of Sludge to the Pant Devil

What? That's heinous! I love tag, and I was one of those slow kids who had to resort to subterfuge to stop being it.

It's not quite as draconian as everyone's making it out to be, though. Supervised games appear to be allowed, although I honestly don't see how having a teacher there magically keeps kids from getting hurt or having their egos shattered.

Dodgeball's gotten banned almost everywhere, kickball's going that way, tag might be next, and half the schools don't even have playground equipment because of liability worries. What, exactly, do they expect kids to do during recess?

Why, sit and stare at a brick wall, of course. That's fun.

Of course, little Johnny might dry his eyeballs out and be in slight pain from that. Never mind.

So pay the price and close your eyes and play the game then I'll make you cry...

That is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Yes, some kids might get made fun of for being not very good at tag, or feel bad about themselves because they're not very good, but that can happen with ANY game. Are they going to just ban games all together now or something? So, kids are basically going to get yelled at for trying to have a little bit of fun by playing tag during recess? That's horrible.

But oh, tag is still yet more dangerous.

Love how dodgeball gets banned all over the place because it's dangerous but they still make us go outside for gym class in icy pouring rain.

I think small children can handle a few cuts and scrapes. Oh noes, two drops of blood!

Once when I was six-ish I went through a phase when I was constantly on the monkey bars-before class, after class, lunchtime, recess, weekends, etc. I ended up with palms covered in calluses and open painful blisters...So they might as well ban monkey bars as well.

Our swinging tires were banned in sixth grade because they were 'dangerous'.

But after school sports exist, geez. I play field hockey and I've been playing while bleeding out of my eyeball. It's impossible to prevent kids from getting hurt some way or another.

Unless...

We're raising a generation of lawsuit-happy pansies. Your kid fell down in school and cried for two minutes? It's obviously the school's fault, and your kid is clearly traumatized.
I could understand making it so that no kid would be forced to play tag in gym. Some kids hate the competition aspect. And heck, I would understand banning dodgeball, because the idea you get from it is that it's okay to hit other kids with objects that are capable of causing severe bruises(my sister bruises extremely easily, I shudder to think what she'd look like after a game of dodgeball). But tag? It's not like you tackle the other kid and punch him in the face to make him "it."

Oh wow. Lets all ban everything because it isn't safe. Yeah, little Tommy says, "Mommy! I got a scrape! AHHHH!".

Yeah. Tommy, go to middle school and high school gym and then talk to me about that boo-boo! Zorbing is probably gonna get banned too because it might roll a little bit down a hill or something dumb like that.
