. . . TNT will listen?

Um. . . I'm really not sure if I should even post this, but I had this idea burning in my head, and I just wanted to put it out there. So if everyone else thinks this is stupid/not necessary/pointless/fruitless/not something I should have posted here, or whatever, I apologize!

But. . .
A lot of people have expressed that they are not at all happy with the revamp of the games room. There are lost of things that people don't like, like colors, way the categories are organized, decidedly little kid feel it has, and lots of other little things.

While I feel it would be fruitless to try to convince TNT to completely abolish the new games room and go back to the old layout (and that of course would upset some people, I know that many people like most of the changes, opinions vary of course). I think there are a few things that are worth trying to address.

While the new layout may not be to everyone's taste, certain basic functionality features have been taken away, and it seems to me, that it's a nearly unanimous opinion that these things shouldn't have been taken away, and that the should be brought back.

Of course I'm talking about the points to NP ratio information, and the ability to set the quality of each game. These two features were very important to a lot of players. Without them playing games and making neopoints is going to be more difficult and sometimes impossible for a lot of people, and I really think they should be re-instated.

I don't know if anything we do could change anything, but I don't know, I thought maybe we could try? Maybe if we started a petition or something, or perhaps this thread or the Neopets Site Overhaul - Google Search/New Games Room thread could be brought to the attention of TNT, or we could all send in bug reports, or something. Maybe, just maybe, they would listen and bring those things back?

What do you guys think? I feel nervous and stupid posting this, but I thought I had to try.

In my opinion, and past experience, it would seem that TNT is more than willing to accomodate its users as long as it doesn't include completely overhauling or removing some aspect of the site. Which means that they would probably be willing to re-add the NP ratios and the quality options, but would probably be hesitant/entirely unwilling to revert the games room back to its original state. I for one am perfectly fine with the new game room--don't know about the rest of you.

It WOULD be nice if they actually bothered to poll us on some of these "brilliant" ideas they've been having recently, though. Seems like everywhere they turn, there are unhappy neopians lurking.

Of course everywhere they turn there will be unhappy neopians lurking, but there will also be happy ones lurking! It's normal; everyone has different tastes...
But this new games room isn't normal. Neopets can be more creative and lovely than this. I'm not saying that I really want to convince TNT to change the whole design. They can try and make it less bright...
But I really think they must add back the options to choose high, medium and low, AND the neopoints ratio. Too many people are complaining about it.

I don't really care about the new game room, it doesn't affect me that much. However, adding the point/neopoint ratio would be good, as well as the quality.

I think they should have a site preference, "old" gameroom or "new" gameroom. That way everybody can have their way

I asked a programmer about the quality selection thing, and she forwarded my query on to the people who revamped the games room... so we may see the quality selection back soon. She also asked about the score:NP ratio thing, but thinks that may have been left off for a reason.

For now, if you want to manually change the quality of a game, you can, at least in Firefox. I have been, because most of the games just won't run properly on normal size and quality on my old computer. It's pretty easy... first, you have to make it so the game windows always have an address bar, and you can do that like this:

In Firefox: type about:config into your address bar and hit enter. Scroll down to where all the "dom.disable_window_open_feature.[whatever]" things are listed. Right-click on them and "toggle" them to true. Some of them aren't necessary, like personal bar and menu bar (it won't hurt anything to have them "true;" they might just annoy you). You can mess around with them and toggle things back and forth until your game windows look how you like.

When your game windows have an address bar, all you have to do is load up a game as usual, then add &quality=low to the end of the URL, then hit enter. The game will load in low quality. (&quality=medium also works.)

If anyone knows how to do this in IE, let us know.

Well that's good at least. I'm glad you have a contact to talk to about these things. And that's very useful information for changing the quality in FF, although I don't personally need it. I know a lot of others do.

But what you said about the point ratio concerns me. What possible reason would they have for removing that? What harm could it do? It was only helpful for the many of us who want to earn neopoints from playing games. It lets you know what kind of score to aim for, so you can get a decent amount of points, lets you figure out what games you are best at, and that you can earn the most from, helps you set goals for yourself for achieving higher scores ("if I can just get fifty more points, I'll be making 1K per play!" and stuff like that). It was an invaluable feature.

Well I'm glad to see there is at least some interest in this. Like I said, it's not my intention to form a protest to completely get rid of the new games room, I don't think that would be possible, just get those valuable features back into it. :)

I think the_dog_god's idea would be ideal, giving everyone the option of how to view the games room in old or new style, but I wouldn't hold my breath for that happing. I would be content if I could just have my points ratio back!

I'm getting used to the new gamesroom. I'm getting the hang of its oddities. I still prefer the old style, and I still think it's ugly, but I don't want to stab my eyes out every time I look at it either.

All it takes is one person to get into the Editorial of the Neopian Times...how many times have we seen someone say, "Dear lovely TNT, this is missing from some place, could you make this or that minor change?" And they're like omg you're right! We'll get right on that.

They probably did leave the ratio off for a reason, but I can't think of what that reason could be either. It didn't seem to be doing any harm, quite the contrary...so if one of us gets into the Times, maybe we'll at least get a reason for removing it, if we can't get them to bring it back.

I was hoping it'd be in today's Neopian Times editorial but it wasn't :( Probably because this week's was early and no one would've had time to get their question in.

I personally have a split opinion on the games room. It's bright, it's colourful and it still seems that TNT are making changes (I heard that the Conundrum was under "For Kids" and I think that has been moved since...). But I don't like the fact that the Battledome and the Favourites page aren't listed on the front page. And I miss seeing Hannah on the games banner :(

I'm just going to give it time... maybe I'll get used to it... and if TNT do make changes, then I'll see if I like them:)

If anyone's trying to get in the Editorial about the games room, good luck:D

I don't mind the new layout. I was happy with the old layout, but I'll get used to the new one. I would like to have the ratio back. What really bothers me is that the brightness hurts my eyes. I load the page, keep my eyes as narrowed as I can and rush to find what I am looking for. It doesn't really help to avoid the afterimage that forms and makes it hard to read the headings.

The only aspect of the new games room that bothers me to a point of discomfort is the 'Kids Category' and the sudden drastic change to appeal to the age range of 5 - 7 year olds sitting on their mother's lap.

Neopets has been apart of me for nearly 6 years now, and not once was I embarrassed to play it. Now I'm not so sure. It's finally dawned on me that Neopets is going to the children, where I loved it so much because it was a site that appealed to everyone. Now it's just the younger group, or seems to be.

The recent plot lacked a bit in overall complexity. It was quick so it could catch the attention of a younger audience and keep it without giving it the qualities like I enjoyed in the recent Lost Desert plot.

It's just these little things that are adding up more and more over time.

Neopets' quality is starting to giveway to the standard call of big profit-fetching companies. They want to make it into the next Nickelodeon.

I just wish they'd improve the Gamesroom by eliminating some clutter and especially the Kids' Category. Now I have a subconcious feeling in the back of my mind whenever I play one on it's list -- it makes me feel foolish.

I've protested a bit on changes, but never did I actually feel different about the site. 90% of the time, I liked it. I got use to it. I told myself it'd be no different, but this genuinely bothers me.

Go for the petition. I'm willing to sign it with my own signature and address if I have to.

EXCELLENT point!

Overall I enjoy the game, and I'd much rather be complimenting TNT rather than complaining about them. If they surveyed their users to see what we prefered, well, that would reduce a lot of complaining. And if some people still didn't like the changes, at least they'd know that it was based on majority feedback.

I don't think it's really that bad, though it could do with some inprovements like the np ratio and quality option. I also wish they would have picked less bright colours. The layout/graphics are actually quite good, but the colours are just sooo bright.

In the games pages they didn't use those uber bright colours and it looks alot better. Just look at the game page for petpet cannonball http://www.neopets.com/games/play.phtml?game_id=553 or volcano run http://www.neopets.com/games/play.phtml?game_id=140

I send in a comment to the editorial about it. :)

One of the things I don't like about the new layout is that you cannot launch another game in a second window. I am on dial-up and usually play a game while I have the next one I plan to play loading. Now if I am playing one and try to launch another, the second one loads in the same window.

And speaking of tossing ideas to TNT, has anyone ever suggested to them a use for points gained in the battledome? My idea would be to use them to possibly train with.
