I actually didn't get a single RE since... I don't know, May. Those didn't count the rich Slorg with 50-100 NP RE though.

I got it, and I had:
0 np
did not watch any animations
got all advent items
read 1 book, but never used anything else
no winter pets/petpets
normal sidebar
'chia - do not eat!' avvie
numerous random events

I got it, the only things I did before going to the advent calendar were:

-Zapped pet at lab
-Bought a lot of snowballs
-Sent some snowballs to one neofriend, then some to another
-Donated the rest of the snowballs to the Money Tree

Aaand that was it. Not sure if it counts, but while doing all of the above, I had the advent calendar front page open (not clicked to collect yet, though).

i'm really starting to buy into the having something with 'snow' in the name in your inventory, which is the most popular theory on the Neoboards. I thought I didn't have anything, but I forgot that I got a snowball from a snow faerie quest.

Boo, I didn't get it... maybe next year.

Have:
- All pets are "delighted"
- Inventory contains a snow coconut, snow ball and some misc Advent Calendar items
- Sent and received a snow item from another account
- Donated to the money tree (in the past month)

Haven't:
- Had any winter REs
- Visited Happy Valley/Terror Mountain/Ice Caves during December
- Played winter games
- Collected all advent calendar prizes

Looks like ^ might definitely be a requirement? (or do we know that already?) I thought I had gotten them all, but then remembered that I'd acccidentally collected from my secondary account one day, and thought I'd be good and not do it with my main. If only I had...

Not too sure where you are getting that from.

The RE says "Winter Holiday" and the Sidebar Theme in Preferences says "Winter Holiday".

The only "Happy" in sidebars is "Happy Valentine's Day!"

That can't be because I had lots of "snow" named things in my inventory from this advent and that didn't get me the sidebar.

you had to have that AND visited the advent for all the days, i think. Anyways, that's just a theory, so feel free to shoot me down.

I still think (even after reading all of these posts) that Snow or Ice + visiting the AC everyday is a requirement.

But buying items rather than using items that the AC gave us.

I had all the AC items in my inventory last year and it didn't work, so I think actually buying or receiving (as in Taelia Quest, because you bought stuff to do the quest) snowballs is a real possibility.

There is obviously more than 1 requirement, and most people aren't going to remember exactly what they did or bought or received for the whole month.

It occurred to me that I did send a present to somebody one day this month.

Could sending a gift be necessary?

I got the winter sidebar, and did not have any snow items in my inventory. My active pet was the one painted Christmas, and I use the Taelia avatar. I went there everyday. Other than that, I have no idea what else I could have done to meet any requirement. I was shocked that my son did not get it - I just assumed that everyone would get it.

Edit: my son and I both sent gifts this month.

I thought about that (you know, the "holiday spirit" and all) so I made sure to send a few items to people... no luck.

Well, I didn't want to contribute to the already conflicting theories (although I am glad someone started a what-it-is-NOT list and somehow happy that it is longer than the what-I-did list(s)) but I thought to throw in what I did and didn't do, with remarks on 'why' (as in how I 'prepared' based on reading old and new theories on how to get this sidebar). Ahem:

(I did NOT get the sidebar).

1. I did think (naively) that the recent Editorial was a clue. I thought 'snow' and I thought 'icy' although NOW that I know the sidebar is (not)* entitled Happy Holidays, I reflect more upon what I did. *EDIT: Thanks Daze, it is called Winter Holiday? Good to know.

2. I did just so happen to have received/sold/sent a Happy Holidays card.

3. I have no Christmas/Snow pets/petpets (I simply abhor the cold, wet/icy season called Winter as well as the holiday Christmas, sorry.)

4. I did have an ICY Eye SNOWball equipped to my main active pet. I sent the same type snowball to a couple of Neofriends. I had the same item in my Inventory as well.

5. I visit Snowager every day I am awake and he isn't. (2/3x per day)

6. I try Taelia quests several times a day and do them when I can afford.

7. I received/scratched/sold Race to Riches Scratchcards in Happy Valley and regularly visit/refresh/buy from the Igloo Garage Sale on Terror Mtn.

8. I did miss a day of Advent due to power outage, but that seems to be NOT a requirement as many have mentioned. I also did watch every one all the way through before collecting, but that also seems NOT a requirement as many have mentioned. (I used a direct bookmark link to Advent but I often navigate through Happy Valley to get a Scratchcard.)

9. I am sure I received a few REs, even one Winter one, IIRC, but to be honest I don't get many more than that. A few a month if 'lucky' it seems.

10. I am using the Taelia Snow Faerie avatar, although the avi one uses also seems NOT to be a requirement.

11. I admit I did not check to see if my pets Mood (Happy?) or Health. I never enter them into the Neolodge ('cause I admit I am a cheapstake lol) and my firstborn/active Nimmo seems miserable/unhappy almost all the time despite what I do, so I have come to largely ignore her mood. All my pets are always well-fed regardless of mood, Satisfied to Bloated.

12. I did not check my NP on hand, not thinking that mattered. I do tend to think it is mostly 'random' or there is more than one requirement plus a little luck? I did experience the Altador plot bug for a couple of days, but other than that had no problems on the site (even Godori always worked).

13. It appears from the data, that those who got the sidebar are still overlooking something, but it is hardly a user's responsibility to keep tabs on every single "stat" at any given moment. I happen to think that it could not have been something that one did all this MONTH. After reading the posts of people that had and had not gotten the sidebar during the first HOUR of the 31st, I really do think it is something very" minimal".

(And I will edit this post if I think of more to add to my list.)

EDIT: I did not donate or pick up anything from the Money Tree, IIRC.

I don't know where that rumour came from that it is a Happy Holidays Sidebar, because it is Winter Holiday Sidebar.

Reading your list Anjuna, it seems more likely that you have to do 2 or more things - you missed a day but did have an icy eye snowball.

Maybe those who didn't miss a day, but didn't get the sidebar, didn't have an Icy object?
